Serie A strikers stride on
Monday, 10 January 2005
Vincenzo Montella continued his surge up the ESM Golden Shoe table at the weekend to move into the top four and close in on leader Thierry Henry.
Johnson jump
Montella made it five goals in five games by scoring twice in AS Roma's 2-1 Serie A win against Atalanta BC, strikes which lifted the forward to 28 points, four behind Arsenal FC star Henry. Another player based in London, Andrew Johnson, is now in the top ten after registering twice last Monday as Crystal Palace FC beat Aston Villa FC in the Premiership.
Ibrahimovic moves up
Two of Montella's Serie A rivals also progressed following a busy week of football in Italy. European Footballer of the Year Andriy Shevchenko scored for AC Milan against US Lecce to leap into joint-13th position, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck for Juventus FC against Parma FC and AS Livorno Calcio to rise 29 places to 15th.
