Essien Threatens Strike

This kind of behavior should be worrisome to Chelsea as well. Just imagine what's going to happen if he doesn't get the playing time he wants (a certainty) or is asked to play out of position.

It doesn't really matter how high/inflated Chelsea's bid was. If they're willing to spend that much clearly there's something special about Essien; it's not like FIFA 2005 where you can sell any of your players and find a near identical replacement for a similar, if not lower price. If there was another Essien out there for £20 million Chelsea would have bought him. Chelsea could offer Arsenal £100 million for Theirry Henry and they would be turned down; you can't replace Henry for ANY amount of money. If selling Essien doesn't fit with Lyon's plans, then they don't have to sell, even if (shocking, I know Chelsea fans) it is to Roman Abramovich.

The Jean Obi Mikel, Robinho, and now Essien sagas are deeply disturbing, and I wonder what can be done to prevent clubs like Chelsea and Madrid making players "disillusioned" with clubs they are contractually obligated to.

There is a difference between this case and Robinhos. He was promised to sold by Santos but than the president went back on his word and said that he couldnt leave anymore.

Because when Chelsea is dumb enough to spend £26 million on Didier Drogba, other clubs are going to take them for as much as possible. They have overpayed for most of their acquisitions, including SWP, why would Essien be any different?

Nobody paid any attention to tracerdong and his information about the whole claim being made up. The news about avoiding injury is probably true enough, but its highly likely that the story about a strike may have been fed by the club to help smear this kids name. With a snake like Aulas at the helm of that boardroom, I could easily see them just making half this sh*t up just to speed this saga along and make Chelsea more likely the agree to a bigger wage.

Secondly, how can people attach blame to Chelsea for this??? "Is there any doubt that Mourinho/Abramovich have put him up to this?" "LOL CHELSEA R DUMB LMAO DROGBA FOR 27MILLION?? OMFG". Firstly, they made their admiration for Essien publicly known. Nothing new there. I think you Obi Mikel conspiracy theorists need to take up a hobby or something. Secondly, who the f*ck actually believed Drogba was worth that much money? Nobody, not even Buck, Kenyon, Mourinho or anyone else. That wasnt stupidity. That was getting a player they wanted at any price, despite the sellers hesitancy. Deliniate, please.

also, how many instances of this mental midgetry do we have to see?
WTF? ESSIEN SAID HE LOVED BECKHAM AND CANTONA AND NOW HE LOVE CHEL$$$KI? LIAR
Look it up. He did say that, and that it would be a dream to play in Old Trafford. Then he also said his dream move would be to Chelsea. Then he said his dream manager was Arsene Wenger. Do you people see where im going with this? His dream was never to play anywhere. Rather, his dream was to get paid the most.

All that said, if this is true, and the guy really believes he can behave like this with his club in regards to his future, well, I dont really think I want his type at Chelsea.

The american way:
Salary cap

I'm personally gonna slay the person who institutes a salary cap in soccer.

As much as I hate to say it, but in soccer... capitalism is the way to go.

If you're supporting a top team, a salary cap is a no no. If you're supporting a small team, salary cap would be one of the best things in the modern era of football.

Even if a salary cap was implemented, the sheer number of professional football clubs would mean cap rorting would be rife. Not to mention that there would be more and more bonuses paid to players in exchange for taking a basic wage cut.

Lets take a look at Jose's buys shall we:

Didier Dogbreath= :sb9:
Jarosik= :sb9:
Kezman= :sb9:
Carvalho=good, but who wouldn't look good with John Terry next to them?
Ferreira=average

Face it, he inherited the nucleus of the Championship winning squad, Robben, Cech, Lampard, Terry, Gallas, Makelele...it was all there before him. In other words, he's been buying crap.

well look at it this way. he spent what, 500 million € on Chelsea so far (random number), but his overall wealth has increased for 1 or 2 billion € in 2004 alone (alot of random numbers, but they're all very near the truth).
