I just played the game myself and must admit i was surprised how good it was.. i thought it was gonna be ****.. u can score from pretty much anywhere including the halfway line which i have done and the movements are very realistic.

The game has good solid commentary and it appears that the crowds vary, during friendlies the stadiums are pretty empty which is cool although the crowd could look better.

Ranges from club sides to national teams and the jerseys are very detailed and the graphics very sharp. The menus are slick and easy to use and it has a ****load of stadiums & a whole host of different weather condition to match.

From what i have played of it so far i reccomend it.. its pretty cool :)

I have just tried this game and it seems very good. After reading an article in PCzone about it, it is clear that this game is Actua Soccer 4 in all but name(The exe file is even called soccer4.exe). Infogrames actually purchased Gremlin a while back and this is obvious in the game as it plays very much like Actua soccer 3. Yup, this game sure has some nice graphics and the gameplay seems fluid too. Fifa beater?Well I will let you know after I've played it some more.

I have played the game about 2 hours now. I think I have a mixed feeling about it.
First, IMO it's definetely BETTER than FIFA 2001. The pitch are more real, and when you see the game actually it feels like you see a real football match (just look at the screenshot). Gameplay is also heaps better than FIFA 2001 generally.
But I guess I've been playing too much of Winning Eleven series (AKA ISS). For those who have played it then you know that ISS doesn't look good (it's on PS for Goodness sake) but PLAYS really GREAT. It has creativity, good game physics, strategy, AI, player statistics... k, enough about ISS, back to UEFA challange :)
I've made a list of what Infogrames SHOULD have done to the game. Please read em carefully :) :
-Kudos to Infogrames on the goalie, they act like a normal person :) But the players are too FAST, so I can score pretty easily. Slow down the game a little bit. Give some more 'weight' to the players movement.
-It still has that Fifa-ish lag (though not as bad as fifas), get rid of it.
-
-There's this weird movement when you make a full stop, then move, it would jerk for a frame like he's into running mode?
- Get rid of that 360 degrees spin, gives me a headache. Replace it with fake kick movement or other more believable movement.
- The lob is too high. You should make it an option to have lower and faster lob (like beckham cross or something). I suggest that if you press the lob without holding the directional key, it would be high lob, if you press the lob with dir. key, it would be..err..Beckham cross (you get this right?)
-Kudos for the sensory kick for shoot AND lob (ya know, how hard the player kick the ball?), but why not on regular pass? (I've seen this implemented on FIFA 97, boy was that long time ago). It would be so much real.
- Though the passing system is heaps better than FIFA 2001, but there's still some issues.e.g, when I tried to pass the ball back, yet the players pass it forward and the people on the back would run to get it, funny stuff :) Or when I'm on the edge of left wing and tried to put the ball out by passing it left (since no one is lefter than me ;P), it passed the ball right to the player near me. Hmm... This is bad. So all you have to do is press the pass key a few times and it will make sure it would be directed to your teamate (though probably not the one you excpected :)

K, that's about it right now. I have lots of ideas on how to create better soccer game and I know you guys here do too. Any game developers who want to make me their game conceptors feel free to contact me right here on this board. (yeah, right).
UEFA Challange is a good game and I pick it up over FIFA anyday. The only 2 good things about FIFA are the graphics and the full players/clubs copyright. While UEFA has good graphics, some of players/clubs copyright, and decent gameplay. (That's the conclusion BTW :))

Ah, pretty long for the first post, hehe..

And sorry for the foul English, not my first language you see..

Ciao

Edward_Black,

I think you are on the line. I have installed the game last night but I could not play it. Why. I've reach the menus screens and after adjusting the options with my system capabilities I tried to play training but it gone back to the Windows.

My system:
PII 333
64MB RAM
Voodoo2
10.5HDD

If you can help. THANKS

Your system should run with your voodoo 2 card in 600 x 480 res, but the lack of ram in your system could be the problem, when the game dropped out did you by mistake press the quit key or button, if you take a close look at the controller options you can re configure either the game controller or the keyboard, that option is worth checking out ..........................

GRAPHICS CARD: 8MB AGP or PCI 3D Accelerator
card required.

CPU: Pentium 233 or faster required. PII-300 or
higher recommended.

MEMORY: 32MB or higher RAM required. 64MB or
higher recommended.

CD-ROM: Quad speed IDE or SCSI CD-ROM drive
required.

SOUND CARD: 100% Windows 95/98/ME/2000 DirectX
compatible 16-bit sound card required.

INPUT DEVICE: 100% Windows 95/98/ME/2000 compatible
keyboard required. Multi-buttoned joystick/joypad
recommended.

DIRECTX: Microsoft DirectX 8.0 is included on
this CD and must be installed to play UEFA Challenge.

NOTE: Your system may require the latest
windows 95/98/ME/2000 drivers for your particular
hardware.

Hi guys,

I'm really pleased most of you seem to like the game. I'm the development producer for the game and appreciate any feedback you give the team. We have a team of 20+ developers working on the title and it took us roughly 2 years to complete the game. Here are a few things which should help you out....

1. Use chipped through ball - it's ace!
2. Try the special through ball move (hold it down while your strikers run through, then release)
3. Real Madrid are the best team in the game.
4. Henry is the best striker.
5. Figo and Zidane are the best midfielders.
6. Cheats (frontend) - type 'pleasantville' for special black and white mode. 'difficultbrown' will give you a different sprint animation.

If you like these, I'll post some more.

Cheers,
Jon

I've played it a fair bit and found that it's a LOT better and easier to play if you set the controller config to 'A'. This is a much more intuitive method of control.

Looking forward to the next one! ;)

Whey, how about that guys, i think that we have a first here, with a Development Producer giving us all a call, and asking questions in regard to what we all would like and want out of a football game, thank you Jon for dropping in to give us all a bit of advice about your new game, you have certainly set a goal for other companys to catch up to..One question, is it possible in any future releases to make the pitch larger and tighten up the high balls in the game and delete the 360 spin and replace it with something like the drag back special that is featured in the Premier All Stars 2001 football game..then i believe that you could be getting very close to having the complete football game that we have all been waiting many years for to finally turn up on the Pc, these are just ideas that could make the game stand out amongst the rest further down the track. <how about next week> :D .. Ned
