European Champion Greece Thread

With preparations for the world cup underway
with the first friendly against Czech republic
and with the first game against Albania only 2 weeks away I think it is the appropriate time to start this thread

The European Champions have had a nice summer off...

Papadopoulos participated in the Olympic team however they have been eliminated early and he had a poor showing

The future is bright however.....Stoltidis and Tavlaridis both showed that Greek football will have the firepower in the future...to handle big teams.

With that said here is some info on the first game/venue

Thats a pretty tough group. Too bad they didnt seed the draw AFTER the euro's, wouldve been a much diff picture.

Denmark, Turkey and Ukraine are all contenders for a spot as is Greece.

wat i hope happens:

Greece and Ukraine go to WC (has everything to do with Shevchenko getting to play on big stage)

wat i think will happen:

Denmark first; Greece second

I think Greece will win the group....and Turkey will be defeated by Latvia in the qualifiers

The Turkey games will be MAJOR intensity, i cant wait. gotta greek friend who gets greek satellite, so Mikey gets to see those games.

Yeah.....the atmosphere will be explosive!! to say the least....the stadiums for those games will be shacking in their foundations..

Turkey are last World Cup's semi-finalists. Don't underestimate them. I'm more worried about Greece overestimating themselves. If you tie against the lesser teams and you're out.

Phew, thank God Denmark has such an easy qualification group.

Greece is going to get spanked. The reason they won the Euros is that everyone underestimated them and didn't know how effective their defensive strategy would be. But the jig is up, everyone knows what to expect. While Rehhagel's system worked to perfection in Portugal, I think the problem will be that it's too inflexible and teams will know exactly what to expect and will plan accordingly.

Denmark first, Turkey second.

My question is who are Denmark going to get to replace Sand and Henriksen. Are they finally going to call up Henrik Pedersen, he's been in good form for Bolton.
