i have to admit i wasn't expecting WE8 to be this much of an improvement. just about every complaint i had with WE7 has been addressed. i'm playing through a season in the Eredivisie (ajax) on 4* to get a feel for the game and i'm just blown away. konami should get a medal for this.

I have never bought a WE/PES game before. I've always played FIFA, but I bought WE8 today, and played one game: Barca v Real.

My first impressions are fairly positive. I do like the game play, for the most part. However, I'm so used to the FIFA controls that I don't like how the WE controls are setup, and I haven't messed around with them enough to get them how I want them to be. I also don't know all of the controls yet.

There are some things in WE that I don't like. I really don't think that the flight of the ball from goal kicks and long lobs are very realistic. It seems that the ball is weightless and floats through the air for entirely too long. It's almost as if you're playing on the moon with zero gravity. Also, the menu graphics, and the graphics in the game, such as the player names, the score, etc...are really ugly, and are an eyesore. The music is horrible, obviously, but you can turn that off. Also, is there a way to turn off the radar? I don't want to see it.

However, I do like that you can take a short corner, and I like that you can choose between a direct and indirect free kick, that's great. I also think that alot of the player movements are quite nice. FIFA has improved its' player movements, but my first impression is that WE has done a great job with player movements.

Of course FIFA players love that they get almost every license, and that makes the game alot more enjoyable. However, I think that the things the FIFA lacks are made up for in WE. I'm sure that the more copies Konami sells, the more licenses they'll be able to buy. Everyone would love to see WE get full license for the EPL, that would really be great, but for now, we'll deal with fictional EPL teams, and just enjoy La Liga and Serie A. I couldn't care less about the Dutch league, to be honest. There are only 3 teams that are quality anyway.

If Konami would stop calling their game 2 different things, and call it either Pro Evolution Soccer or Winning Eleven, and release the game at the same time around the world, alot more people would buy it. They need to discover the power of marketing, because what they do now is quite stupid, and makes no sense.

I'll post more of my likes and hopefully not many dislikes as I play more games. Until then, enjoy the game. :)

Everything is excelent, the only complain is the goal keeper, sometime he just stands like an idiot, and the headers are a little hard, anyone has any tip about scoring from a cross.

WE is awesome cuz when you push a button (pass or shoot for example) your guy actually passes or shoots it. Unlike FIFA when the guy just keeps running forward regardless of button presses or analog stick movement.

I gave up on Fifa when PES3 came out. I still play Fifa 05 at work sometimes but i can't stand it. Playing FIFA actually makes me angry

bah! who cares about Fifa.

i'm willing to cut a little slack when it comes to ball physics, as long as they're not totally whack. first, i've worked on video games and i know how difficult that kind of stuff can be and WE8 does a fine job of balancing realism with playability. second, i'm okay with the "floaty" feel as long as the AI isn't able to exploit it at your expense. i admit i was at times very frustrated with WE7 for that very reason.

i mix up my crosses to get the most scoring chances. i pay close attention to where my strikers are and try to use the near or low cross option whenever possible to get the ball to the space i want. timing of the shot is critical for hearders, i've found. also, i often pull back and cut inside when the area is very crowded. first, you're less likely to win a header with defenders in front and back of your striker. second, trailing players offer the best shot options when things are crowded. just dashing down the wing and pressing cross isn't going to do much good.

oh, i forgot. the tackling and challenges are far superior to WE7. same goes for the fouls. i practically gave up using the slide tackle in WE7 because the refs were so whilstle- and card-happy. things are much more realistic and balanced now.

Pause the game and go to Button Config and change the buttons to the fifa ones you're used to, simple.

You can turn off the score-board, the player names, strategy indicators. Just pause the game and do it. You can make the radar see-through (translucent) but not turn it off unless through patching.

I agree.

Guys, you should really play WE8 (Japanese version) or WE8-J-League. That will show you how much Konami cares about USA .

In those two versions the ball feels heavy, it travels at the right speed and the feeling you get when you pass/shoot is amazing.

WE8I-USA sucks just like PES4.

No, what I meant was WE 8 US version has far less slowdown than the first japanese version, and this alone makes the game much more enjoyable, about the ball physic, I think it's good, in fact, It's much better than WE7I, I really love this game, period.:rockman:

I agree, this is THE best footy game ever. I'm amazed FIFA consider their product to be a contender. Now, that's funny.:D

the only reason people buy and play FIFA is cuz they don't know about WE/PES.
Living in North America, it's a lot harder to find this game than it is to find FIFA.
I know for a fact that there are guys that work at EA that will even admit that WE/PES is a superior game.

sorry, i misunderstood. and i agree that the ball physics are very good. having put a few more hours into playing it i think the biggest improvements are with passing and how the players move off the ball and set themselves up to receive passes. the flow of attack is quicker and much more realistic.
