Eto'o takes African award

The fantastic form of Samuel Eto'o with Barca this season has earned him the African Player of the Year award for the second year running.

The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has chosen Barca's Cameroonian striker as best African player of the year for the second year running. Samuel Eto'o received a total of 116 points, well ahead of Chelsea's Didier Drogba with 90 and Bolton's Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha, with 63. Eto'o was unable to attend the ceremony in Durban, South Africa, because of his commitments with the 'Football for Hope' benefit match and Barca's upcoming clashes against Mallorca and Chelsea. He was represented in the ceremony by his lawyer, Jose María Mesalles, his partner and other members of his family.

Celebration in the Nou Camp

Samuel Eto'o will have the chance to celebrate the award with the fans in the Nou Camp on Saturday before the league match against his former club Mallorca. Eto'o was still a Mallorca player when he won the award for 2003.

The election process

Eto'o was chosen from a shortlist of five players drawn up by CAF: Eto'o, Emmanuel Adebayor (Monaco), Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Benedict McCarthy (FC Porto) and Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha (Bolton). In January, the 53 federations reduced the shortlist to just three finalists: Eto'o, Drogba and Okocha. Each federation then awarded five points for their first choice, four points for their second choice and three for their third choice.

Mundo deportivo and a radio station called RAC1, both usually well informed, are reporting that the advertising for the shirt is almost decided.

http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/20050217/NOTICIA191982510.html (spanish)

It will be Beijing 2008, The Olimpic Games.

The former Betandwin proposal hasn't been accepted and there a good offer from Hitachi but it seems that the winner will be Beijing 2008.

It's a good economical proposal and the values it represents will be well accepted.

I like the idea. :rockman:
It's good and nice sponsor I think. (and yes, it's necessary to have an sponsor)

That's a good sponsorship deal, aren't barca currently sponsored by a spanish T.V station.

I havent seen Victor's new haircut what does it look like ?

The TV3 logo you can see is from the catalan Tv.

It's one of the sponsors like Cocacola, Nike, Telefonica (IT), La Caixa (Bank) or Damm (beer).

The new sponsor will be for the football team shirt, as there is one sponsor for each one of the other proffesional teams (ex:winterthur for basketball team)

------

I'm don't know if it is a good sponsor, I only know that when the sponsorship is confirmed it will be a sad day :(

Mundo Deportivo also say that Ronaldinho wants to sign a contract with Barça until his retirement

He and his brother have said a thousand times that Ronaldinho would sign for 10 years every time that there has been a rumor about Chelsea but it would be shocking if they really sign it.

It will be sad to break the tradition, but I guess it has to be done.

I read in the newspaper yesterday that the football section will take the same path as the basketball section - they'll put the sponsor name in front of the club name (like Winterthur FC Barcelona).
I realise the shirt has to be ruined, but will there really be a sponsor name in front of the Club name?
I hope not. That would suck big time.

As for Ronaldinho, I'd like nothing better. The best player in the world pledging his future to the best club in the world. Perfect match, tho I doubt it will happen.

BTW, maybe Victor's haircut will confuse the opposition.

In basketball it is normal but the name of the football team :| no way, that's impossible, unthinkable.

Ronaldinho said on TV3 that they're talking about his future so it's true that they're thinking about a new longer contract..
