Eto'o: "The league title would be a fair reward"
Samuel Eto'o is 24 on Thursday. In an exclusive interview with Barca TV and fcbarcelona.com, the Cameroon striker tells us that the league title would be "a fair reward".
Seven months after signing for Barca, Samuel Eto'o sums up the situation so far in an exclusive interview with Barca TV and fcbarcelona.com. He praises the work of Club president Joan Laporta, team manager Frank Rijkaard and the tremendous spirit among the players, and assures us that the league title is no more than the Club deserves.
The best birthday present
It's Samuel's first birthday as a Barca placer and the striker is absolutely clear about which present he would like. "I'm really happy to be celebrating my birthday here. I want to win this league because I believe it would be a fair reward for all the work we're doing. I'm proud of the standard at which we're playing and we've shown the whole world that it's possible to see good football in the stadiums''.
Football and Barca
In spite of his youth, Samuel has had a long and difficult struggle to get where he is today, but throughout it all there has been one unifying factor in his life: "Football is everything for me. It's my life and my happiness. Though sometimes it can give you a hard time".
For this reason, he's quickly been able to see that there's something very special about this Club: "It's a feeling. At the beginning, I didn't believe it when my advisers told me that this was something different. But now that I'm part of it I see that it's unique. Let's hope things go well for us. At least let's keep on fighting and hope that things go well".
Samuel is also keen to praise the fans and calls on them to help the team in the last stage of the season: "As fans they deserve a 10 and now that we're coming up to the final stage, we'll need them. Now more than ever. With their help and their encouragement we'll go forward".
The 'pichichi'
He's currently the Spanish league's leading scorer, or 'pichichi', with 19 goals in the league and another 4 in the Champions League. He tells us he sees his task as finishing off the work of a great team: "I always said I would have a lot of chances here because I'm surrounded by teammates who are the best in their positions and that is a big help. When they're OK, I'm definitely OK".
However, Eto'o doesn't want to focus on his own scoring record: "I never say how many goals I'm going to score because that doesn't fit in with the way I am. I'll keep on working in every match and if the manager thinks I should play, I'll give everything I've got".
