Ajax must be in a very low moment to sign Gabri....

Can't believe they are not able to find anyone as good as him in their younth teams. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Good luck to Gabri and Ten-Cate in Ajax. It would be interesting if Barca and Ajax were in the same group for CL. I'm so excited for the summer, so much football!

I don't think it's a matter of Ajax not being able to find a quality player in their youth ranks, it's more a matter of ten Cate wanting to work with players he knows everything about. He was with us for two years and knows Gabri's pros and cons. I think he just wants familiar people with him. It's like Benitez bringing Sissoko to Liverpool.

He'll pass the medical this morning. If nothing strange happens, he'll be officially a Barça player today or tomorrow. 3+1 seasons. ~12m €, +3m € depending on titles.

Versatile player(in fact when I think of Gudjohnsen I see him as an AM). 27 years old. Good buy IMO.


I'm surprised they've signed a new forward so soon. I was expecting some drama with Forlan or someone else. Supposedly Manchester United and Arsenal wanted to sign Gudjohnsen but Mourinho didn't want him to go to any of those clubs, so instead of making it more difficult, it was easier for Barça.

On top of that, the beauty of Eidur is that he is team first, 100%. He will sacrifice his personal glory or his best position to fill the roles the team needs him to. He did it this year regularly at Chelsea, sliding to midfield when his scoring was down.

He was very proud to be a Chelsea player, and selling him to anyone was, in my opinion, a mistake. But at a club as big as Barca, with fans like yours he is getting just what he deserves. He will be just as proud or even more so to wear your colours and will be a class act off and on the pitch. Congratulations on signing him.

I am surprised he wont be taking the number 22, but at least I have an excuse to get a Barca shirt if the opportunity ever comes along, now :)

He's a good player. But has never recaptured his form from 3/4 years ago when he actually scored more than like 5 goals in a season.

He's good, but is arguably a tad overrated.

A useful 3rd choice striker though.

Perfect. That's what we were looking for. We didn't need a golden boot, we needed a replacement for Larsson. If I'm not wrong, he's not played always as a striker, so the goal rate is not very relevant.


However, not bad statistics.

"During his six seasons with Chelsea, Gudjohnsen scored 78 goals in 263 matches, and is the second overseas player that has played more matches with the 'blues'. He has also been a great provider of goals last season he made 9 goal assists for Chelsea, superseded only by Frank Lampard (17)."

it's a pity iceland won't qualify for the WC anytime soon, players like him deserve to be in germany right now.

oh well, we'll be seeing plently of him at the camp nou next season, great great buy for us. like others have said, i'm slightly surprised that finding a replacement wasn't harder, but hey, i'm not complaining.

also, thats most definately the shirt from this season so i guess the new one isn't ready yet. also, since he got the number 7 shirt, i guess messi won't getting it as suggested in other threads. i'm sure he won't be 30 though, maybe he'll take gabri's number.

Maxi was loaned out to Mallorca, number 11 is free. But maybe he likes the number 19 and he sticks with it.

Txiki Beguiristain said that we won't sign any more players unless there's a great opportunity (Zambrotta). I think we need a defender. I hope we get a full back.. or two.
