Fever Pitch

I know a lot have you have seen this movie, about a man deciding between his love for Arsenal or a women, but what I saw on tv today utterly disgusted me. I saw previews for another movie called fever pitch. It's the same story line except instead of a man's love for Arsenal, it's a man who loves the Boston Red Sox. That just brought my hatred for the sport of baesball to another level. please express your feelings about thsi, I can't put the rest of mine into words right now.

Doesn't look great but it doesn't look bad either. Plus Drew Barrymore has the habit of looking hot at times...

This movie is absolute sacrilege. I call upon all Arsenal fans to burn down any theater that is showing it.

Fever Pitch is this era's Deep Throat. We ought to take the creaters of this movie to court in order to prevent anyone from seeing this :(

I just went to see it and wow, thank god Ive never seen Taxi cause then I probably wouldnt like Jimmy Fallon and I really like him. And he's awesome here. Awesome doing comedy and even better in the few dramatic scenes.
Drew Barrymore is great too, though I feel her part, unlike Fallon's, could've been played by any other actress.

But the movie has Nick Hornby (About a Boy, High Fidelity, and the original Fever Pitch about soccer) written all over it. Lowell Ganz adapted it, but the heart and feel of the movie comes from Hornby's writting.
And I dont know why the Farrelly brothers directed this cause there's almost nothing from them here. maybe one single scene I remember that I can see its from them.

Overall Im surprised, because the movie is really good, and I hope people can get past the Jimmy Fallon in Taxi fiasco and give this a chance. (Y)(Y)(Y)

Other than trying to protect the original movie (which ive never seen), the other main reason why so many people are hating on this movie is because of what happend during the Red Sox actual world series run last fall. Because of the Red Sox run to the world series, the Farelly brothers had to rewrite the ending, and they had Fallon and Barrymore go to the actual games to film scenes for the movie. The worst part of all was when the Red Sox finally won the game, and in all the middle of all the celebrations they showed Fallon and Barrymore making out on the actual field (which was being filmed for the movie). Red Sox fans are furious that this tainted the win, and so now Jimmy Fallon is pretty much hated in Boston. I think it's unfair to single him out, and I blame FOX mostly for stupidly cutting to them every 10 minutes during the games against the Cardinals and showing the make out at the end. They also hate Fallon because he's admitted to not being a sports fan, and says hes 'supported' the Red Sox, Yankees and Mets during his life, which is laughable.

I actually dont mind Fallon that much. SNL is pretty awful these days (i blame the unfunny headwriter Tina Fey), but at least it was better when he was in scenes instead of Will Forte. I think everybody will agree Taxi was a bad movie, but Fallon (and of course that scene with Bunchen roughing up Esposito) was the only good part of it. Queen Latifah and the terrible writing/plot were the worst parts of it.

I think the Farellys brothers are trying to distance themselves from this movie

Notice why during the commercials they never say 'from the creators of Dumb and Dumber' or 'From the Farelly Brothers'.

thats very true. I think the problem was that they were doing it, but then they realised the story had nothing had nothing to do with their type of comedy.

and on SNL, yeah, its not as good as before, but I dont blame Tina Fey. she and Amy Poehller are the only funny stuff SNL has going on these days. And Tina Fey's Mean Girls was surprinsingly very good.

I've never Mean Girls so I cant comment on that.

I think SNL has some funny people on it (Chris Parnell, Fred Armisen, Horatio Sanz and occasionally Seth Meyers), but they lack someone who can carry the show, like Will Ferrell did a few years ago, and even Jimmy Fallon did afterwards. These days, the show is only as good as its host, so hopefully Ben Affleck, Carlos Black, Christopher Walken and Alec Baldwin continue to be regular hosts. The biggest problem with the show is that there's too much women in the show, and they have too much air time (having Fey as head writer clearly shows)

Tina Fey thinks she's funnier than she is, but I like Amy Poehler who was great in that extra Anchorman DVD.

SNL sucks now. Nobody can carry the show anymore. I miss the old days, back when they had a good streak going, from about 1991-2002. It was imo, the funniest period in the show's history. Then, for whatever reason, the show started to tank. Now, even if you paid me $50,000 an episode just to watch, I won't. Its a testament to how much the show has dropped off when Will Ferrell left.

I think that there's definetely more women because of Tina Fey, but she's not the reason why the men are not funny. I mean, Parnell and Seth Meyers have funny bits, but they're not ready for big things. and Horatio Sanz sucks. he's only funny cause he cant remember lines and he has to read the cards all the time and that makes him funny but he's not.

If the Red Sox didn't win the World Series what would have happened in the ending? In the orginal Arsenal won the league so maybe filming the movie was the actual reason for breaking the curse.

havent thought about that. I thought the original ended with something around that Arsenal lost again but the couple found each other or something like that.

Here's my full review :D

Fever Pitch is a romantic comedy based on a novel by Nick Hornby, who also wrote About a Boy and High Fidelity, and it's worth noting because though he didn't adapt them for the big screen, there's something common to them, which I can't quite describe, but it's there, and I could feel it constantly while watching his latest, the Farrelly Brothers directed Fever Pitch.

Now this is actually a remake from the 1997 British movie of the same based on the same book (though that one was actually adapted by Hornby) about soccer. This time around, writer Lowell Ganz adapted the story for the States and made it about baseball, rewriting the ending after the Red Sox won the World Series last year.
So we have Lindsay (played very cutely though nothing remarkable by Drew Barrymore) falling in love with 9th grade teacher Ben, only to find out afterwards about his sick passion (justified though) for the Boston Red Sox. "His apartment is like a gift shop", she says at one point. And it doesn't stop there, as he even has season tickets (for two) right behind home base and he never misses one game, previously sharing them with his friends (Willie Garson and Armando Griesco, who have to win the right to go to the games they want) and now sharing them with Lindsay who must balance her career (where she's trying to land a big promotion) and her new almost daily appointment of following the Red Sox.

Jimmy Fallon plays Ben, and as I write this I can already imagine all you remembering Taxi, and automatically eliminating any chance of going to see this movie, but please don't. Try to remember the great work Fallon did in Saturday Night Live, and the promise he showed with just little parts in Almost Famous and Anything Else a few years ago. Please try, because he's great here. And it's no secret he can nail the comedic scenes, but he's also great in the few dramatic pieces, and I give credit to Hornby and his writing for this.

Now, shouldn't I be giving credit for the actor's performance's to the director? And in this case directors, the comedy genius Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who brought us Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Shallow Hal, and Stuck on You? All great and most even classic comedies? Well, the answer is no, because I wouldn't know they directed the movie unless it wasn't on the credits (and props to a friend that pointed out how the commercials barely say its a Farrelly Bros movie). There's nothing about them here. Not one scene that could make me say it's from them. And I should say that this makes no difference, as the movie works perfectly anyway.

So overall I'm surprised, because the movie is really good, and it's great that the ones that get to see it will see that Jimmy Fallon is actually good (despite Taxi), even great here, he has great chemistry with Drew Barrymore, the rest of the cast is very good too, and it all makes for a really good story that everybody should give it a chance.
