Fifa 06 Onscreen Flicker ??

Iam getting a little flicker or distortion flicker onscreen when Iam in a game.

It doesnt happen very often but is slightly annoying.

It seems to happen more when I have the in game graphics turned up full (1600x1200x32) but when I turn it down one notch (1280x1024x32) it nearly go's away but not quite :(

The thing is, I should easily be able to play fifa 06 on this system with the graphics up full.

Os - windows xp pro inc sp2
cpu - amd 64 - 3400+
ram - 1gb
motherboard - msi ms 6741 (via k8t800 chipset)
graphics - ati 9800se @ softmod driver
monitor - 21" IIYama E511S connected with Digital cable.

I have all the latest drivers installedfor everything including the latest chipset drivers too and my monitor can easily display high res images of 1600x1200x32.

I must also add that up until I got fifa 06 the other week, i was happilly running fifa 2005 with the game graphics up full at 1600x1200x32 too without any graphic problems at all.

I would appreciate if anyone else is experiencing these kind of probs for them to post a message here please and if anyone has any ideas of a fix please also post.

Cheers.

OK guys, heres the latest on graphic distortion.

Ive seen some other people talk about this same thing in some forums, looks like this is whats happening when people see distortion >>>

ive been hearing that it only seems to happen on certain pitch's and conditions etc, i put it to the test and sure enough that is whats happening.
Let me explain :>>>

You know how you get stripes on the pitch that are meant to be the marks that the lawn mower makes as it go's up and down ? WEll if you play a game in very bright sunny conditions and on a pitch that has loads of those stripes packed tightly together, you'll see that as the game go's up and and down the pitch you get some kind of graphic distortion sometimes, BUT, if you play in dull conditions and on a pitch with not as many stripes and the stripes are wide, you will notice that you dont get the graphic distortion, give it a try, infact could everyone please try what ive said and post your findings here thanks.

Ive heard that other people have seen this problem but not all people, so it must be just certain types of system components etc that are getting this problem

I've tried to recreate what several people reported about that distortion problem but I couldn 't, I guess my system is stable, it could be a graphic card problem and my card is a Geforce 6 6600 GT with the latest whql nvidea drivers release version 81.85

I notice (but it could be just coincidence) that most people reporting these problems are using ATI cards, maybe try several driver versions and see which one is the best?

The screen flickering is a quite common issue with both FIFA and PES. For both games, the solution is to turn V-Sync on. For that, you'll have to Right-Click on your Desktop, click on Properties, then the "Settings" tab, then Advanced, then to your Grapics card tab (that is "Direct 3D" for ATI users, and "GeForce xxxx > Performance and Quality" for NVidia users).

From there on, you'll have to look around for the V-Sync option and turn it on.

As for FIFA, there is another little tweak: You can add the "RENDER_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1" line (without the quotes of course) in all cfg_pc_*.ini files inside your "FIFA 06\data\cmn". Just open the files with Notepad, add that line anywhere inside the file and save it.

Those two tweaks did the trick for me.

As for the v-sync, mines is on (default) and its still the same result.

This "render every frame tweak" that you speak of, what does this actually do, just so that we all know please, iam one of those people who like to know what a tweak actually does before i apply it. (and does the tweak work with fifa 2006 or older versions)

let us know mate, cheers :)

The "Render Every AI Frame" is a well-known tweak for the latest version of FIFA, that has helped minimize the distortion and/or blur that was sometimes caused in-game. I've tried it myself and it really works. I don't think it does anything else than that.

NO you have to turn v-sync off. For some strange reason, FIFA06 does not allow you to switch V-Sync settings ingame. SOme crazy miscalculation on their part.

I had card specific V-Synk on and it flickered, thus looking for a solution I tried setting it off in graphics card settings and it worked. Yes, without v-sync on you, if experienced enough, can notice some sync problems ingame but they arent much of a problem. With v-sync on my main menu was crazy and forced headaches.

So, try and turn it off and see if it helps

You can adjust the vsync mode in the game actually....add this line to your cmn.ini if you're still seeing the flickering and don't have a v-sync setting for your graphics card. Just place it below the RENDER_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1 line:

VSYNC_MODE = 1
