FIFA 2000 Data Update & Kits - coming soon!

Hi there folks,

Now, I'm aware that sometimes when these things get announced, they don't end up turning up for one reason or another, so I don't want people to get their hopes up unduly.

However, I am currently working on an extensive English Premiership update for FIFA 2000. It baffles me that 2000 is so neglected, when FIFA '99 is constantly having patches and updates released for it. I've taken it upon myself, therefore, to rectify this.

The priority, first of all, is getting kits done. I am doing home kits for all 20 Premiership teams, plus away kits for a handful of others. Further to that, however, I hope to get a rosters update completed before long, too - hopefully within the next month. I've already updated rosters for Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd, and hopefully others will follow. Obviously this is more difficult for teams I don't know so much about - particularly with regards to abilities and facial characteristics. If anyone is able to help me out with updating rosters for Prem teams, then please email me at [email protected]

As I've said, though, doing the kits is the priority, as I haven't seen new Fifa 2000 kits for any season more recent than 2001. I've already done some kits, and you can look at them here :

For the meantime, I think I'll just stick to doing Premiership. Doing lower leagues would be difficult - it would involve even more research, and it wouldn't really be possible to run it concurrently with a Premiership update as there wouldn't be enough kits to go round.

Nevertheless, it's something I may consider when I'm done with the Prem. That being the case, I would need plenty of help gathering player data together - but I could probably get kits done for it at some point. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, anyway

Meanwhile, I've done a few more kits so here's a bit of a taster of how they're coming out :

I'm not happy with the Villa away kit, I'm doing to redo that. Likewise the ManYoo away shirt - it comes out too dark in the game. I'm having to take some liberties in places - Fulham's asymmetrical home shirt and Blackburn's shirt are difficult to do because of the way sleeves work (the Rovers shirt looks alright in the game, though, it's just that the sleeve colours are the wrong way around - Fulham is proving a bit more of a nightmare and I'm going to have to take artistic license with it!); and I'm using Arsenal's yellow third kit instead of the blue away kit because it's a nicer shirt (and easier to draw). Still, I think it's coming along quite nicely.

I don;t have any modern ones available at teh current time, but these are 2 previous versions of the adboards, made for fifa99, although I do have experience making fifa2000 adboards aswell

as you probably guessed I'm trying to get involved in making the patches again, after being away for the last year due to work, I suddenly have some time available again, just let me know, and I'll get downloading all the fsh programs etc again

Some adboards would be terrific, yeah. Likewise, I'm going to include the Premiership numbers patch. It's a shame there isn't some kind of patch/crack that could put the players' names on the back of the shirts, but you can't have everything!

Kits are coming along - I've done all but four of the home shirts, and about five or six away shirts. The rosters are going to take longer - if there are any sides anyone thinks they could do, let me know (it's easy enough for me to get squad lists, but harder to get what players look like and how good some lesser-known ones are).

what were you actually planning on hosting it

unfortunately Fifa2000 online is no longer updated, so unless there's a real strong push for it, which there doesn;t seem to be at this time, then I can;t really justify asking for permission to add the file onto the soccergaming webspace.

But being a Milan Fan i play the Italian League in Fifa 2000 and looks to me u re going to concentrate only on prem league, too bad couldnt u work on SerieA as well? I updated rosters of SerieA for the last season and I hope i ll be updating them for this season as well.

It would be great if u could atleast do some kits for SerieA as well

I doubt I'd get round to doing rosters for any other leagues - it's just too darned time-consuming! However, if you're doing the roster yourself, I could possibly do some kits for it and you could use them, and distribute it yourself. It would require more ferretting around to find pics of all the Italian kits online (for every kit I do, I need a decent picture of the strip so I can grab the sponsors, badge, etc. - colours-of-football.com has proved invaluable for this but it isn't exhaustive), but it might be do-able. It would probably take me longer than the Premiership ones. But I might move on to either Serie A, La Liga, the Championship or the Scottish Premier League when I'm done. I'll just have to see what time I've got free when I'm done.

To answer your other question, the shirts are 64 colour ones, paletted correctly, so they work perfectly in the game. The reason I've been able to make them work is that changing the position of the palette colours became about a hundred times quicker when I realised that the palettes are just editable text files (I'd started out using the tutorial on fifa200.net, which is good, but such a time-consuming method!)

As an update, meanwhile, all the home kits are now done. Here's a pic of them all :

I've still got 15 away shirts to do, though, so that should occupy me this week, and then I can move onto the (unenviable) task of doing the rosters!

Steven, those adboards are looking good. It's certainly something that would be cool to add in when the whole package is ready to go. Do you have the hosting space to put it on sportgaming? If so, it'd be cool to get it on there. That being the case, I might send you a zip file of all the .fsh files when they're done (i.e. before I do the rosters), so they can be got online for people to use, at least. If you can't host it, however, I'm sure I can get them online and provide a link, I doubt it'll be that big a file - it's just that a site such as yours that is actually geared towards add-ons might get more people downloading it!

I am only currently on a 56k so obviously uploading files is not one of my easier tasks.

We are hapoing to get a forum setup for sportgaming before too long aswell,

the site which sportgaming is being hosted by is joint run by myself, Lars (other older fifa moderator) and Manny Hernandez, just waiting for a couple of things to be implemented on the server, then I will will be back to regularly updating it

Files can be added as things stand at the minute, but I am not happy with the current look etc.

Phew. Well, after a gap in which I had a lot of other stuff to do and so didn't have a lot of time to do kits, all 40 Premiership home and away shirts are now complete. Here's a preview of them all :

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to complete the entire update on my own, however - doing the rosters will take a lot of time, time that I'm not sure I'll have over the coming weeks (I've got an interview for a job down in London, so may have to move and get myself set up, not to mention the time I'll lose by working!). However, I'll see what I can get done. If anyone wants to take it upon themselves to compile lists of Premiership players, please let me know. If you give me a list of the squad, their positions, their hair/skin colours (approximations are fine) and how good they are (you don't need to do all the stats, but you can if you want), I can use Fed2000 to put it all together into one update. Give me an email at [email protected] if you have a team you can help with.
