First off if you just like to gripe or are an ISS freak don't bother reading on. For the rest of you get this......
FIFA 2001 is an excellent effort and a major improvement in game play over 2000 and 1999.
EA ha done their best to respond to concerns and the result is a game with still a few issues to be resolved (like any other game) but all in all with regard to gameplay an excellent effort and worth the wait.
EA are not morons, they use a skilled staff, I think they do their utmost to get it right.
The main issue previously was the pitch size, adverse speed and ping pong effect. Even if one played the most staid defense it was almost impossible to do an 'Arsenal' - somehow, somewhere an errant pass would initiate an opposing breakaway goal.
Now, you can simulate real defensive tactics if need be and play as if in real life thanks to the new pitch size and better defensive AI.
As to the supposedly inaccurate perfection of the passing - guys, these are supposed to be professionals and who the hell wants to see bad passing. Hey if you want that come see my semi-pro team in NYC on Sunday!
Well done EA.
