fifa 99 3d problem !!

I've just bought fifa 99 and I've a big problem with 3d setup : when I try to launch it under win98, it doesn't recognized my graphic card (geforce 4 Ti 4600). It just mentions "d3d device 1" and the game is unplayable (very slow). With win xp pro, if I click on 3d setup... I've got a black screen and I must reboot my computer !! Could somebody help me please ? Because software mode isn't beautiful... Thanks

By the way : The official patch 1.11 doesn't chage anything to this problem...

I have a suspision that my Fifa2000 3D Patch if modified correctly could work under Fifa99 and recognise GeForce 4 cards.

But since I no longer have 99, I can't test or develop it. I'll see if a mate has it so I can test it but I'm not very hopefull.

But please feel free to mess around with it yourself. I would be more specific of things to try but I'd need to know the file structure, file names and the makeup of 3dsetup.ini.

If I could get these details I could make a patch here and give it to you guys to test. You can then report back if it works. Is anyone interested in doing this?

If so I could let you know of what to look for, to report back to me.

You will only need to be able to use WinZip and notepad. No programming needed.

Oh, and patience cause I'm quite busy at the moment. So it may take a couple of weeks for me to reply to any messages.


Of course, anyone who contributes would be acknowledged in the patch as thanks.

Thank you very much for your answer Galah !! I will send you the content of the "setup" folder, so that you'll see how it is. I hope you'll be able to make a patch like the one for fifa 2000 ! Anyway, I will try for my own to tweak your 3d patch... Who know ? Maybe it'll work...

I made a patch that I sent to my collegue to test, he just phoned me and said it doesn't work. fifa 99 says that the installation is corrupted.

Hmmm, this might be tougher than I thought. What did work for him however (made his game play faster, he has GeForce 3) was replacing any files in the Fifa99 (he had 2) installation named d3da.dll with the dx6z.dll from my Fifa2000 3d patch.

Then you must rename dx6z.dll to d3da.dll

This will use DirectX 7 acceleration rather than DirectX 5. This should be a large benefit to your GeForce 4.

Not sure whats happening with your 3D Setup under WinXP because his works fine? His also says Direct3D Device 1 and his game runs good.

Strange? This was one of EA Sports first attempts with 3DSetup and they never realy got it right, and have since dropped using it.

Good Luck with it. I am not sure I can realy help any more without getting my hands on the game.

Got the Demo

I had a brainwave, get the DEMO!!!

I did and will work on it tonight.

By replacing the file d3da.dll in the THRASH folder with my dx6z.dll file (renamed to d3da.dll) should do the trick allowing your GeForce 4 to work at full speed.

I will also try to implement my 3dfx voodoo patches. Who knows, GALAHs Fifa99 3D Patch may be released in the future.

As I said I'll work on it and post my findings here.

Thanks for all your work, Galah. That's very nice to do that for me. I've tried to rename your dx6z.dll and put it instead of the original one (in thrah and setup folder), but it doesn't change anything : black screen with xp, and direct3d device 1 + error message ("your graphic card isn't recognized by fifa 99...") with win 98. And the game runs in software mode, beacause I can't change the resolution or any graphic option...
BUT after doing that, I've also changed the 3d setup.exe to put the one of your patch + your 3dsetup.dll (it doesn't work without it) + your 3dsetup.ini instead of the .dat file of the CD. I've changed the .ini to put "fifa 99" instead of "fifa 2000" in the the two first lines. And the 3dsetup works ! It recognized my geforce4, and i'm able to change resolution and activate triple buffer. Unfortunately... it doesn't affect the game . But I will, search again, and hope it will finally work. Even if I think you're far better than me concerning this problem ! Thanks again for your help

OK

OK, I found out how to get it to work.

Everything you've done so far is correct (Use my new dx6z.dll driver, renamed to d3da.dll and the 3dsetup.ini modified as you have already done)

Run 3DSetup select GeForce4 [D3D]

now you need to edit your registry. Select
Start,
Run,
type REGEDIT


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+ SOFTWARE
+ EA SPORTS
+ FIFA 99

Change:
Thrash Driver="dx"

to:
Thrash Driver="d3d"

by right clicking on it and selecting modify. type in:
d3d

Now run Fifa99 as normal. Do not re-run 3dsetup or the value will be reset to "dx".

It should work.
Well it works with the demo.

It works !!! The game is really nice now . Just one thing : I think I can't change the resolution. I've tried to modify it, but it's always the same (maybe my desktop one, 1024x768 ?). Anyway, the game is nice now and without you, I would have been unable to make it. You're a great guy

I also seem to have no luck in changing the resolution, but I know little about how Fifa99 operates so I'm not sure if the screen size stays the same no matter what resolution, or if the resolution is fixed within the game?

The good news is I will hand over a beta version of this patch (Version 1.00) to Pulsace SportGaming, as they seem to be experts in Fifa99. They can test it much better than I can as they can.

I would appreciate if you could check it out on the real game for me.

Can you check to see if the 1.11 patch allows 1024x768 when running under Direct3D.

You may need to use use www.fraps.com to grab a true screen capture to see the pictures dimentions.

I have observed the Fifa99 spreads the 640x480 resolution to better fill the screen size. When you have a large monitor it actually distrots the image abit.

unfortunate;y I will not be able to check anything above 800*600 resolution, as thats all my monitor supports. Altho I will do as much testing as I possiby can. Unfortunately I can't use Fraps, I don't have the system requirements to run it. I will take a screenshot using Hypersnap, hopefuly this is good enough

Thats fine, the demo won't run higher than 640x480 so even being able to run at 800x600 will be better than the standard res.

I will upload the beta 1.01 to my website on the 20th of August 2003. Please feel free to host this on your site. I'd be honoured if we could get some feedback from the Fifa99 community because I have little experiance with Fifa99.

Hi Galah !

I'm finally back and I've downloaded your patch but... it doesn't work : in the 3d setup, I can only choose "software renderer" and a 640*480 resolution. Strange, isn't it ?? But anyway, thanks for your all your work... Keep it up

It should work, I have had it tested on 10 different peoples machines. The only thing it could be is that the installer I made isn't working properly.

But I tested it and so did valiant_freak and it worked on our machines. I'll test it again, but it should work.
