True, but I thought you did a pretty good job of that with your gp mod. The CPU comes back much deeper with your mod than with default FIFA gameplay. Anyway, IMO this is one of the worst aspects of the default game. It's unrealistic that the CPU rarely sends more than 4 players back into its box to defend. It turns the game into an offense-oriented arcade game. But it's an intentional game design decision: EA knows most gamers buy FIFA to play as Messi and Ronaldo and score lots of goals and aren't interested in simulation football.

I took a screen of the Bayern-Barca match last night. Look at all the players in the box (screen 1). That's how the default game should play but it doesn't. The game is able to reproduce that degree of defensive committment, but it takes a lot of editing (screen 2). It's essentially fixing the non-existent CPU defensive gameplay by making sure more CPU bodies come back to their box to block the passing and shooting lanes.

BTW, another major issue I have with player positioning has to do with the positioning of defensive players on my team. Even with player and team settings and strategies set to max attack, my defenders will never join the attack. They'll stand back at the midfield line and on my side of the pitch (screen 1). Because of that, I'm left to attack the CPU with only half my team. This is one of the main reasons why the goal scorers in FIFA are almost always FWs and AMFs.

To fix that, I created a base formation for my team using only MFs, AMFs and FWs. This is my default attack formation, and I switch into it when I'm pushing to score a goal. You can see (screen 2) that my back line of defenders now pushes much further up the pitch, which then gives me many more passing and shooting options. It's also much more realistic from a real-life football perspective. The downside is I can't stay in this formation forever because the CPU reads that my defenders are in a vulnerable counter-attack position, and will then send long passes up to their FWs. So what I've done is create a variety of formations I can switch to that are by degrees less and less attack-oriented, which I use depending on the game circumstances.

I sent a pm asking if you wanted to test. One of the latest versions has a more balanced attack at the expense of some defense. I'm still working on the issue Waldo1639 mentioned.

AP, does the current database you sent out to testers have the player values fixed in Career Mode? I looked at it and still had low values for everyone but wasn't sure if you'd included new values in that pre-release.

Not yet. After I finalize the db, I'll make the tweaks.

why does it take so long to start sprinting?(2,3 seconds i think)
is it a problem with my game or it is by design?

In some cases, I can't get the defender to be on straps with him unless I ruin his positioning. The defenders follow their marks everywhere if the difference between interceptions and marking is too high. Also, if the offense of the opponent has only two players in the box, there will only be around 4-5 defenders in there. I can't seem to fix this issue.

Did you try messing with the line-sliders? Success comes with sacrifice or so I hear. So, decreasing the line length a little bit will do it.

And, let me mess with the product and get back to you soon. And, what about the drop kicks? Only some vary their kicks. Damn!

The problem was the sliders i have, the sprint/acc speed were too low and that was making things unrealistic. With the default sliders the problem is gone so i just need to adjust the sliders a little bet to decrease the game speed without making the players feel sluggish.

Anyways the game feels great with with this mod, can't wait for the latest release.

I haven't tweaked sliders yet. All my work is on the db and defaultt sliders.
