Canada hits 600,000!

(FIFA.com) 13 Apr 2007

The tag line for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 is looking more and more prophetic with every passing month. "It's gonna' be huge!" is no longer merely a hopeful slogan but more a matter of plain fact. After hitting the half-a-million mark back in early march, the Local Organising Committee has now announced that advanced ticket sales for the competition have soared past 600,000 for the six venues across the country.

The U-20 finals are poised to become the single biggest sporting event in the history of the North American nation.

Anyone know when the ticket packages will be mailed out? A week prior to the start of the tournament or sometime sooner?

Canuck hopes on home cooking

Dale Mitchell was recently named Canada senior national team boss, but will be keen to finish his stint as U-20 coach with a bang.
(FIFA.com)

(FIFA.com) 24 May 2007

It is often said that the role of hosts is double edged. However, despite the obvious pressures of playing before your own people, the benefits most often outweigh the negatives.

For example, in the 77-year, 18-instalment history of the FIFA World Cup, never has a host nation failed to reach the knockout stages. The history of the FIFA U-20 World Cup (formerly the FIFA World Youth Championship) is similarly rife with anecdotal evidence of the advantages offered the host nation, even considering the tournament sometimes takes place in less well-known footballing destinations like Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia.

Only five of the 15 hosts so far have failed to reach the second round, and the last four (Nigeria, Argentina, UAE and Holland) all navigated their groups successfully. Canada coach Dale Mitchell, for one, will be hoping to keep the trend going this summer on familiar fields.

Just got a lovely gift from the Mrs for fathers day. A passport to all the games played at Montreal Olympic stadium. 8 matches including 1 in the last 16 & a QF match.
5 rows in from the pitch, around halfway line, it only cost 160$. Cant wait to see the new Liverpool Brazilian wonder Lucas Leiva.

I love how so many games are in Toronto, I'm moving their at the end of next month. The first half looks boring and Portugal/Mexico is the only good game in Toronto for the group stage. Wish they had more European teams.

How much would the final/bronze cost?

Marcelo: Brazil's next great No6?(FIFA.com) Tuesday 12 June 2007

The FIFA U-20 World Cup has proven the launchpad to eminence for a series of Brazilian wingbacks over the years. Former and current senior internationals Jorginho, Roberto Carlos, Serginho, Athirson, Paulo Cesar, Fabio Aurelio, Maicon, Adriano Correia and Daniel Alves, who between them have represented AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, AS Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia, all starred in the tournament during their formative years.

Having already made his full Brazil debut under Dunga - another graduate of the biennial youth event - and joined Real Madrid in a big money transfer, Marcelo is now eager to make his mark on the competition and lay the foundations for a long and fruitful career. Blessed with the natural inclination to attack seemingly inherent to his countrymen, and the skills, speed and stamina to validate this disposition, the 19-year-old's reputation as the next great Brazilian No6 looks to be vindicated.
