Interesting picks for an interesting Last 16... Slovakia? S. Korea? No Italy or France? I can dig it. :)

Don't mind the stream of consciousness ramblings... partly so I can come back and see if my gut feelings on the way the games play out is off the mark.

I'll take Uruguay & the USA to advance, both by very slim margins.

Holland will easily dispatch of Slovakia and Brazil will narrowly edge out Chile now that 3 of their key contributors are suspended from the match. Could get ugly given Chile's temperament if Brazil blows it open.

England and Germany will either be a really exciting display of A1 football or it'll be a real fahqing bore. Either way I give the W to Deutschland.

Speaking of which, Mehico & Argentina will be blitzkrieg football. Could see a 4-2 score or even 5 goals with Argentina on top no matter.

Paraguay & Japan... I don't get any immediate feelings about this one. Figures to be fast paced attacking football though the 'stage' of the game could choke the potential excitement out into that weird nervousness we saw in some of the earlier group play matches that lead to ugly, tentative football.

Spain versus Portugal is tough, my heart says Portugal but my head says Spain. Either way, I hope Portugal has a good showing and Ronaldo doesn't embarrass us too badly diving all over the place. There's a real chance Spain loses but most likely only if its a tight defensive match with only one goal conceded. If it gets heavy offensively & stays open, unlike the Portugal/Brazil match, I can't see Portugal's defense holding up given some of the lapses they've made to lesser teams.

As for the Elite 8... Uruguay narrowly over the US. Holland takes out Brazil. Argentina crushes Germany while Spain and Paraguay go to PK's.

Holland rolls on Uruguay while Argentina and Spain fight out a bitter 1-0 finish. In the end Argentina tops the Netherlands and stunningly Diego Maradonna wins a WC as a coach. If that happens he just might be elected Grand Leader of the country.

Yes. (H)

I wanted them to go through to the second round to represent the CONCACAF, but now they could very well make it to the semis, so that makes me go back to my default position.

Too bad Marquez is the Messi destroyer. Under normal circumstances Marquez would just pull a Roy Keane and try to tear the calf of a player as good as Messi. But since they're both at Barca, Marquez will hold back, which means Messi will make Mexico look foolish.
