FIFA World Cup Rotation System

Ok, I am a little confused. Today I read something on some website (and I was reading lots, therefore I forgot which site it was from).... but anyways, it said that the 2014 World Cup will almost certainly be held in BRAZIL as Conmebol will do everything they can to hold the other countries from bidding. So, now I'm thinking that North America will get the 2018 World Cup and the 2022 will go back to Asia or something like that and then back to Europe in 2026 and etc.

That news source though said that the 2018 World Cup will be back in Europe and then it will continue on.... what the hell?

I am confused.....

hmm

that would make sense except this is the first time I think.....ever that a CAF country hosts...so I don't think that holds true

Sepp Blatter said he would rotate. He only got elected after WC 98, so the rotation starts in Asia (if i'm not mistaken). So it is: Japan-Korea 2002/ Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 (almost certain), and then some country from Concacaf (Mexico or USA) OR Australia. Then it goes back to Asia.

Exactly!! That's what I thought too... but I will try to find that news source right now and then reply back here.

I believe that FIFA does not have an "official" rotation system, but a system that will always be confirmed a decade or so ahead of time. For example, we now now what continent will get the 2014 World Cup (it's South America). We don't know yet who will get the 2018 World Cup and the President of FIFA will announce that and it will be nothing more than a 'decision.' It may not be "North America and Oceania," as it could easily be back in Europe and then go to those two continents. Then instead of going to Asia in 2022, it might go back to Africa first, then Asia and then Europe again. The system is not a consistent system I think. I think it is just based upon the situation ten years prior to a World Cup.

What I see as a reasonable system for the next few decades is the following:

2006 - EUROPE (Germany)
2010 - AFRICA (South Africa)
2014 - SOUTH AMERICA (Brazil)
2018 - EUROPE (England)
2022 - NORTH AMERICA & OCEANIA (USA, Mexico, Canada or Australia/New Zealand)
2026 - ASIA (China)
2030 - SOUTH AMERICA (Uruguay and/or Argentina)
2034 - EUROPE (Italy)
2038 - AFRICA (Egypt)
2042 - NORTH AMERICA & OCEANIA (USA, Mexico, Canada or Australia/New Zealand)
2046 - EUROPE (Spain)
2050 - ASIA (India)

etc.

etc.

etc.

Something great always happens when the WC is played in Mexico....i don't think i have to remind you..

The united state's doesn't have as many, and as great stadiums as Mexico. So if what you say is true, it most certainly will be Mexico...

Yes, it's true. But i guess Mexico fans arent a role model for FIFA. Their ultras are kinda crazy.

I could see why they would want Europe more often to host, it has more big nations to choose from to do so.

I think Australia will get it in 2022.

Give it to Australia!. We have better credentials of big sporting hosting events then any other nation, plus it would help devlop a football culture here amongst ordinary Australian's which would be great for everyone. We have the facilites, infastructure and every game would get sold out or near full capacity.

By 2022 the MCG will be upgraded to seat 100,000 people. That is due completion in 2006 for the Commonwealth games. You have Telstra Dome, Telstra Stadium (Olympic Stadium for 2000), Sydney Football Stadium, Gabba, Suncorp, Olympic Park arrr the list goes on plus by 2022 there will be atleast 1 or 2 mega stadiums somewhere in Australia.

Give it to us :(

:| you do realize that the stadiums that they used for the WC in 1994 were American football stadiums right? Let's see the USA has 1382 stadiums according to www.worldstadiums.com, Mexico has 140 according to the same site. Next oh yeah great stadiums:

Mexico:

Estadio Morelos 38,384

Estadio NEZA 86 37,075

Estadio Victoria 20,000

All good stadiums, but let's compare them to the US ones.
