I don't get what the fascination is that people have for Owen's goal vs. Argentina....yeah, it was a fantastic goal, but I've seen a lot better world cup goals.

Anyone remember Negrete's (Mexico) goal against Bulgaria at Mexico 86' ? It was a spectacular goal that nobody seems to remember..

Damn that goal was STUNNING... the buildup and the finish were world class.. the fans and players went off as Mexico were playing at home at the time

with people first impressions are important... they really influence you in making a decision ... now micheal owen was being touted as an up n comer & had expectations so when he scored that goal ... i duno how to explain it but people saw it to be MUCH better than it was ... im not saying it was a bad goal ... it was a very good goal but it is over rated u r right. anybody understand wat i meant there? lol

I agree, shinji. I think Dennis' goal vs Argentina @ France 98 was MUCH better. I remember that Negrete Goal. It was absolutely stunning.

Owen's goal wasn't as good as people say. That's been said a few times here.

I personally liked Saeed Owairan's goal in USA '94 against.... Belgium was it?

But Maradona just stands out, and Carlos Alberto's goal was great as well as this guy Negrete's strike. Too bad I don't remember Mexico '86 being a little kid back then.

his goal was just a very good run but in fact he didn't show in this goal an intelligent technique
he just ran away from every one

What about Nelinho's goal for Brazil against Italy in 1978? Or Arie Haan's goals from 30-40 metres against West Germany and Italy in the same tournament? I just love those long-range shots... another one of those that comes to mind is Eder's freekick against Soviet in 1982 which hit the bar and where Zico scored from the rebound. Too bad that was before I was born...

Mexico 86 was a great tournament - not as good as the one 16 years previous but still it had some cracking goals. Don't get me wrong, Maradona (fat tw*t) scored a cracking goal in the game against the English but it would be forever tarnished by his earlier act of cheating.

Karlsson I agree with you about Nelinho's wicked bending shot, that was a stunning goal, and Haan's against Italy. Anyway Eder's freekick was against Argentina...

And as for Bergkamp's goal, I can still see it now - it was an incredible goal... best one of France 98, and indeed the whole of the 90's...
