If you play your players enough and successful to boot your plays rating can jump by a whole star. 4-5. Most of my Man Utd team is 4.5-5 stars now.

Didier Drogba doesn't deserve 5 stars... :kader:

as for John Terry, i agree... he's one of the top CB in English Premier League, and in the World. Same with Ricardo Carvalho...

Hmm, I doubt any CB will be a 5 star in 2006. I'd say Terry just misses the 5 star with a 94 rating. Puyol should be in that area as well.

<WARNING: LONG and may contain spoilers you do not want to see>

Lots of folks have already figured the stars are simply a measure of skill rating, with 5-star a skill of 95 or over. Furthermore, skill rating is itself simply a combination of other ratings which depend on position (even being different for a LWM versus LM). Only the player's skill rating for his "1st favored position" is what is displayed and is what is used for the star rating. But when you slide him out of position (or the PC does it for you) or even when you kick your formation into another mentality and the positions adjust, he is actually playing at a skill, and star rating, different from the one shown (why my MVP Ryan Giggs plays like a 5-star player on an attacking team, because indeed in the little binary digits he is even though you can't tell without a lot of odd experimenting).

This is to say nothing of the fact that skill rating I think only really directly affects your ability to make a special move with the guy. All the other factors, some of which are oddly not in skill, actually determine how a player plays.

And I think there are several 4-star or 4.5-star players that play the game on the virtual pitch better than most of the 5-star ones (except I must admit Henry is a real stud in the game).

But for all that, if you like here is the exhaustive list of current and possible future (in the game career mode) 5-star players.

Current 5-star players at start of career:
Zinedine Zidane
Ruud van Nistelrooy
Thierry Henry
Gianluigi Buffon
and that's it!

Dodgy Handling!

John, i agree with what you said about some high skilled players not 'feeling' as good as other. Which do you think handle well?

Also, do you sometimes feel that a tem will play better before you start replacing players for better ones?
