Fix the right axis of gamepad

After study some old threads and microsoft technical articals.

I fixed my usb --> ps2 gamepad and now I can use the right axis for free style! And I guess this method should be applicable to other gamepad which have a analog right axis.

** incorrect change your registry can crash your system. so be fully careful when editing it.

1. Plug the gamepad

2. Assumed that in the Control Panel, you can celebrate and see your right axis is working (moving). (it is important because the r-axis work means the setting for right axis already stored in the system registry).

3. If step [2] is ok, run "Regedit", browse the tree to this entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM

4. Under Joystick\OEM there are a list of joysticks named VID_XXXX&PID_XXXX, one of these is your joystick. Try click each of these joystick(folder on left side frame) and the actual name will show in the key OEMName (on right side frame).

5. Suppose you joystick is found, then under it there is a folder call "Axes". Inside Axes there exist four (or may be more) sub-folders which like :
0,1,2,5 OR
0,1,2,6 or other

Folder 0 and 1 are used for the Left analog Axis (X,Y).
and another TWO axis (2&5 / 2&6 / ...) are for the Right analog Axis

The fact is FIFA 2003 assume Right Axis is controlled by "3" and "4" (Rx, Ry) rather than your current setting.

6. So, If it have folder "2", rename the folder --> "4". Also Rename "5" or "6" --> "3"

7. After changed, you have to unplug and plug the usb again.

8. Then try wether it works.

9. If not work, may be Step [6] "2" --> "4", "5/6" --> "3" is incorrect. Try "2" --> "3" and "5/6" --> "4". remember to do step [7].

This is my first post, so please give feedback.

really appreciate your post keane, but unfortunalety with my thrustmaster dual power i couldn't get the right stick working.
only axes 0 and 1 were in the joystick/OEM part of registry. however found 0,1,2 and5 in directinput folder above joystick entry. tried altering these values as u said to no avail.

There is a very useful old thread which shared idea on how to solve the problem, and he is using thrustmaster dual shock!!! (wish its your model):

http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52845&highlight=analog+right

However, I think it have mistake which Rx and Ry should be Axis 3 and 4 instead of 4 and 5.

So try this:

*** Again, incorrect change your registry can crash your system. so be fully careful when editing it.

1. Create keys (sub-folder) "3" and "4" under "Axes"

2. Inside "3", create a "Binary" value call Attributes. Assign its value "00 00 00 00 01 00 35 00"

3. Inside "4", also create a "Binary" value call Attributes. Assign its value "00 00 00 00 01 00 36 00"

4. After changed, you have to unplug and plug the usb again.

5. Test if it is work.

6. If it is not work, try rename "3" to "4" and "4" to "3"

(Pls trial and error. The value of Attributes is DirectInput axis specificied by your device (joystick). However, old thread found success for "00 00 00 00 01 00 35 00" & "00 00 00 00 01 00 36 00" for right axis, so good bet!)

Please reply us if you found its success.
