I'm starting to get the hang of it I think. 5-0-0 start with Schalke in the Bundesliga. I read a bunch of people bitching about FM13 and the match engine on other forums, so I combined my "exploit" tactic of trying to focus on speedy dribbling wingers who don't cut inside and a midfield more concerned with just standing still and forcing the opposition into stupid long shots. The suggestion has just been to concentrate a lot on tinkering to exploit the other team's formation. One big thing has been to force the opposition wingers inside (because they suck cutting inside) and to man mark their fullbacks with my wingers. If they don't have a DMC, then use my AMC as a playmaker; if they do have a DMC, then I just focus passing to the wings. My wingers (Farfan and Draxler) have 5 goals and 6 assists between them. Been trying on how to feed Huntelaar best, and I think it's probably just near post crosses with him as a poacher. Experimented with him as a target man and focus crosses to the target man, but it hasn't resulted in a ton of goals for him.
A knock on effect seems to be a lot of space for the AMC when they double team my wingers with a fullback and DM or CB. I think the best AMC is probably a goal scorer, like a Muniain or Jovetic, but Afellay/Draxler have done really well. I'm curious to see how Holtby does as he's a little less dymanic, but more creative. The CM/DMs though, really really need to be guys who tackle well and intercept. My defense isn't amazing, but it does seem like this cuts out a LOT of chances and through balls. Neustadter is really really really good at this and it looks like the other great player so far in the Bundesliga is Kvist at Stuttgart.

Afellay went back to Barca on loan, so I needed a replacement. I hope I didn't make a mistake: I could have had Afellay for 8-9m, but he's 7 years older than Isco.
As for Llorente, I had no plans to sign him, but it was like June 15th and he still hadn't signed up for next year. I realized I could sign Lorente and buy Isco if I sold Huntelaar, so I took that gamble, but I think Llorente + Isco is better than Huntelaar. I'm still working on one more transfer before the season starts, hopefully I get it done.
As for next season I'm already eyeing up Kevin Volland and Jetro Willems. I don't think I'll finish above Bayern or Dortmund this year though; if you think about it I haven't really upgraded the squad much. Huntelaar and Afellay are about the same as Llorente and Isco, but I guess Jung is a better player than Uchida and Viviano is a HUGE upgrade over what I had.

Holy shit, Llorente is amazing. 2 goals and an assist in his Bundesliga debut. He wins every header and never loses possession. TM-S. Small sample size I guess, but this is way better than Huntelaar at poacher.
And here's the final transfer that I was working on. Sold Tranquillo Barnetta to make this happen.
Should allow Obasi to concentrate on being the #2 striker and allow Farfan to backup both wingers.
So 39.5m in purchases, 30m in sales. Think I improved the team a fair bit though for this year. Now just hope I don't draw Barca in the first knockout round again.
My dream transfer is this Bernard kid at Athletico Mineiro, but I'll never have the 40m for his release. And Draxler is pretty awesome anyway.

Fucking Llorente just missed sitters in back-to-back games. That's 4 fucking points lost. Currently in a 3 way tie for first with Dortmund and Bayern, that is unacceptable.

Great timing for a Cup match
Right, back in business after a hiatus due to the fact I had shit to do. Luckily I'm pretty much on vacation right now, so expect developments.
Things stand April with me being EPL champion with 6 games to go, semi-final of the FA cup (against spurs), and quarter finals of the CL (against Lyon, won 3-1 in the first leg).
