I just played the demo as far as September and my first impressions is rather good. The 3d engine is as expected not up to it yet, IMO. It's funny, but I still prefer the old 2d engine. It's dissappointing though that still 90% of the one-on-one chances are missed. I remember this beeing a problem in FM 2008 aswell. Other observations include the keyboard sensitivity and when you click 'Go on Holiday' you go to the game status screen and don't go on holiday or anything.
Although I first didn't quite like it, after playing it a bit longer I must say the game did grow on me a bit. I like some of the new features like the press conference etc.

Oh and BTW who's going to beat Tom to making the Screenshot Showoff thread this year? I'm eager to start posting away some screenshots of my own. :)
I'm fairly sure I made the screenshot show off thread last year actually, so it's not even Tom's crown to defend!

I quite like the 3d engine. I think it does exactly what is needed. I dont want to see awesome detail, I want to see where the players are, where the ball is, and in 3 planes, not 2. If you start adding too much detail, then you have to add in EVERYTHING, which becomes impossible, and you end up with FIFA manager. I think the 3D engine so far is great :)

I agree about the one on ones, and there is also the well known injury bug, but so far so good...I think it's a bit harder than last years tho, and I'm a little disappointed with some of the limited controls I feel I have over tactics, but I'm sure I'll get used to that...

The keyboard sensitivity thingy is fixed if you play in Windowed mode... If you don't it sucks, though...
Funny you mention this...I was wondering what everyone was on about, because I never had an issue..I always play in windowed though :)

Hehe yeah, I know you made the thread last year mate. But it's become some sort of tradition since FM 2005 that Tom always complains about getting beaten by someone to posting the Screenshot Showoff thread. :p

I guess you're right about the 3d engine, but although FM shouldn't become another FIFA manager I still think that with modern day resources the graphics could've been alot better. Like the motions from the players for example, keepers don't dive they just block and the motion of kicking a ball is also a bit underdeveloped, IMO. Maybe it's just that I'm not used to the 3d engine yet, I don't know

Is there a reason which causes the stats to barely change? At Nov now, training is on medium bordering heavy, barely any changes. They don't even decrease when people are injured for months.

Those with 32MB graphics, it ain't possible to play at all?

Whenever I click the icon after installing, it goes to the "Send/Don't Send Error Report" thing

:(

Anyone feeling totally turned off after playing using the 3D engine? (and the new 2D). Dunno but it doesnt look as stylish as it should and... well, the word that comes to mind is "professional", it just doesn't look to me like something that is up to the same quality standards I'm used to seeing from SI. So far all we (and I) had to complain about was bad engine tunning... I'll just stick to classic 2D, IF it hasn't changed from the 3D part of the games code.. (like when the text engine went weak after the addition of 2D)

agree. apart from the fact that 3d doesn't run smoothly on my pc it just seems pretty... tacky. Takes me back to the days of Sven Goran Eriksson International Manager (H)

Well, there is one thing that I have a hard time figuring out.... Why does SI keep trusting stupid people to test the game..

I mean, there are several things that I didn't even need 10 minutes playing to notice, that went obviously unnoticed by the I-don't-know-how-many BETA testers, man... Things that aren't too big of a deal, but a ******* baby would have spotted them...

Is the 3D View supposed to show the whole match or only like key highlights, or is my computer just lagging

Yeah I dunno, I still like the 3D engine. Just as the 2D engine doesn't show real players etc, I don't see the 3D engine needs to either. The important things are positioning, speed etc, and on three planes (ie. 3 dimensions). Actual footage isn't important, and I think this way, atleast the skill moves etc can be left upto the imagination. Otherwise 'that same old stepover' to beat a defender, FIFA style, would get boring...

I like the 3d engine. It makes tactics much easier to figure out IMO and it's easier to see what adjustments you need to make. Also, everyone should note that on the demo, only the LOW graphic version of the 3D engine is available. The full game will have Medium and High open as well, so it should look a little better.

You guys seriously didn't have high expectations for the first incarnation of SI's 3D match engine did you? It was never going to be perfect on the first try. It's step in the right direction even if SI didn't impress most of its fans with the new 3D engine which can only get better.
