Football.. My Life

I've been playing football since I was about 9, that's properly.. I kicked a ball the day I was born :).

And umm, when I first started I wasnt the best lad in the team, and that's by far. I was a left midfielder and used to just nock the ball down the line for the strikers all the time. I took corners N stuff and was known for a good long range pass, which is good when you're little because the keepers are tiny.

But yeah, if you'd of asked my old man or any of the spectators when I was about 13, 14 (Do u think he can go on to play a high standard?) I don't think one person would've said, not even my dad. So as you can see I wasnt the best.

I was interested in Football, but I did have other interests if you get me. I suppose my playing ability didnt really help, I mean if you're not brilliant at football, then you're not really gonna be soooo keen on it. Well some might be, but I wasnt.

And when I was about 12,13, the other boys in my team were gettin looked at by Pompey, Bournmouth, Reading, teams like that. And of course were getting called up to the Pompey Rep team and joined their school of excellence etc etc. I mean our team was good, we got into cup finals and came 2nd in the league and stuff, so it wasnt a bad standard, A league aswell. But the other boys were better.

And when I got to about 14, I just.. kinda got better if you get me? My mind changed... I started to just play, and play and play, and play. I mean I was never bad, it's not as if I couldnt kick a ball or anythin. But like I said I wasnt the best. But yea at 14 or so, I played in a team and was slowly getting better. Then last season when I was 15 I joined a mates team kinda thing. It was a bit or a muck about. There were a few fights on the pitch etc, mainly because of my mates, they wanted fights etc so you could tell what kinda team it was.

I didnt miss a game and started every single one, which always gives you confidence. And I played well to be honest, I bought my first pair of Blue Nike Mercurial 2's, it was my first pair of Mercurials. And in that season I did well. I scored a few, set up loads and was an established player. I was probably one of the best players to be honest. And towards the end I got good.. Quite good. And thought I could go on in football. Definately.

So I asked my dad if we could go and practice over the local marshes thingy (we played on the cricket pitch (H)) and yeah I practiced many things, important things. Im a skillful player but I mean we practiced a lot.

Then one day we were talkin and I said 'what do you think.. shall i stay with my mates team next season and see if any scouts or anyone sees me?' and he was like 'hmm.. I don't think so'

And he was right, scouts wouldnt watch that league, I doubt it.

So I was kinda left out in the cold because I didnt know where to go. But luckily we knew someone who recommended me to a team and I went to go training with them, this was a youth team so the boys would be from the ages of 16 to 18. Anyway I turned up for training and I saw the mens team. And thought 'where's the youth?' But I trained with the mens and I was nervous to be honest, very.

But I kept goin with the mens and found out they play a good standard. Not very far from Semi Pro. Well.. About 1 league, providing they get enough funds to pay the players.

So the manager asked me to join, and I know it's not Pro or anythin but it was a great feeling to be wanted by a team who the next oldest player was 19, which is too old for youth. So I was playing with some people double my age.

I kept going and of course got to know the players. So I was a signed player. My ex manager was very nice about it, wished me luck and said it was an offer I couldnt refuse etc, but I said if he ever needed help i'd come play for him, the mates team that is.

But yeah I havent looked back since. Like I said before I used to nock it down the line and last season when I started to do well, I didnt really use tricks to beat players, I'd just run with the ball which wasnt brilliant because it's predictable.

But I saw down and thought 'this is it.. This is your chance, you wana make anythin of football then this is it' So I started practicing stepovers. I'd say i've practiced hours worth of stepovers.. Hours... Big hours. And various other things to improve the speed of my feet. Now I can do many things which can beat a player and im probably known as the trickiest player at the whole club. It's a big thing for me because like I said im 16 then the next in line is 19, then pick ur age, we have 20 year olds, 30 year olds, and I think our oldest is 40 somethin lol.

So I got put into the reserves, which is fine because I didnt even know whether i'd be able to make it at mens level YET because of course the physical side. But I got put in my first game away over the isle of wight, I was sub but came on with about 30 left and did well, I took on their players and everyone congratulated me.

So yeah I was confident. Then I made my first start and did well, then played another. Then the other week I played my first full 90 minutes under floodlights against the top team. We lost but the whole thing about being in the reserves league is about YOU, no body else. You dont really wanna win the reserve league do you. It's about your own performance and moving on to the first team. So I thought I played well.

Then the other week, I was sub, I don't know why, he said he had to rotate things and try new players which I didnt really agree with (inside that is, I have to have a good attitude) but anyway I was sub, came on with about 20 left and had a long range shot which hit the bar :f***: and put in a perfect cross but the guy missed it, so I got no credit. Then I had another shot saved. I felt I made an impact.

The reserves are 2nd, and the first team are top of their league, so obviously it's hard to get in there becuase they're doing so well and look to be promoted into the league where a lot of teams pay their players. So yeah, lookin where I started and lookin where I am now is an amazing journey. I can do so much more now, but im not boasting, I cant otherwise I wont move on and get better, because that's what I wanna do.

Tonight we've got training at our home ground, under floodlights :crazyboy: then we've got a club meeting, the manager said he wants every player there, so not sure what that's gonna be about but I love training, I look forward to it all the time, that and matches are the most important things in my life, I just wanna improve and get better. It's my life.

A few people have said 'well if you're playing at that level now, who knows where you could do' and yea they're right. I just need to get 12-15 full games under my belt for the reserves, so far i've had 1. And then I think I could maybe move on. I mean maybe not leave, but go to the first teammm or see what other options are available you know?

But yeah im really enjoying my football and tomorrow night we're playing a semi pro team, so that should be good, it';s a game you need to play well in because who knows what could happen.

Thanks for listenin and I might post some updates here, but well done for readin all 7 thousand words (H) You deserve a medal :D

Thanks :D

Starting XI
I changed to football (soccer) when I was 11, cause I realized I sucked at basketball. :p

Since I moved to Italy I've been playing in a league in Florence. We train twice a week for 2 hours and play a league game on either Saturday or Sunday.
My teams name is U.S. Affrico and we have a really nice pitch with everything (lights, seats, benches, etc.). Im usually a starter for my team, I play on the right wing but have a special role which is to go upfront as a forward every now and then.

Right now Im injured for 2 months, and I'll start playing again in January which is gonna suck cause its gonna be freaking cold and Im gonna have to get back in shape (which sucks cause I hate running (H) )

This may be my last season because I have too much homework and sometimes cant be assed to go the trainings
:(

started playing organized soccer when i was 5 in good ol house league, left it a year early to start playing district, where i had minimal success as we only won about 4 different championships in 5 years(including tourneys), then i went on to premier soccer which is the highest level from ages 12-18. our team was the franchise and we dominated, we won city championships, tourneys, leagues but the only tournament that we couldnt win was the provincials to go to nationals. it was our curse, we were the best and no one would argue that but we were choke artists when it came to that tourny. sad to think back about it. ive played in only national tournament with my provincial team. i was cut twice because of chronic knee injuries, which have hampered my soccer career but i took a couple months off to restrenghten it a couple years back and its stronger than ever

now im on to mens premier which is the highest we can get in my city, i played for a polish team last year because they gave me a chance and now ive been recruited by an italian team after a solid first year
