frank lampard v steven gerrard

Gerrard.

Arguably as good of a striker of the ball as Lampard. Look at all the long shots he's scored. A better dribbler, passer, defender, a great leader.

Although both get owned by Gilberto (H)

I'm beginning to think people are incredibly fickle to be honest.

People say Gerrard can't defend.

Did no-body see him play right-back in the CL final? That was some of the best defending I've ever seen.

People say Gerrard is less consistant.

For the past 2 seasons Gerrard has possibly been Liverpool's best player, its only this season that he has looked anywhere near inconsistant. Its only this season that Lampard has really been at the top of his game.

I've also seen Lampard go missing in big games, like in the Champions league knock out stages this season where as Gerrard saves his best for the big games.

I choose Gerrard

all true, same reasons i chose Gerrard.

he's got almost everything Lampard's got, and more.

Gerrard...
Lampard is great and he did have a wonderful season, though it ain't that hard with the kind of players he plays with... maybe that's why he doesn't get more attention from the media, as he's surrounded with quality but Gerrard in the last 3 seasons has carried Liverpool on his back and took them to the CL trophy

This contest is between a media darling and the most consistent player around, and as biased and chelsea hater as you may be, you gotta recognize facts not reputation.

I can assure Virgo, I am neither biased or a Chelsea hater. This is nothing to do about which team I support. I just feel Gerrard is more all round. He can make something out of nothing where as I feel Lampard relies on the team around him allot more.

Lampard is one of my favorite players in the world at the moment. I admire him and believe their should be more midfielders like him, but I still believe Gerrard is a more rounded and therefore better player.

both players were as vital to thier teams sucsesses this season.
lampard i do see as more consistent in making his presence felt on the pitch

but i still see them as equals
even though if you were to ask for the world player of the year
it would be lampard for me

The stats don't show Lampard's defending ability. Attacking this year he had 31 assists, 19 goals and played 67 games. He has played 140+ EPL games in a row and is a physical freak, everytime people start saying he looks tired he comes out with mind blowing performances, and he does it all the time. He can pass on both feet as good as anyone going around, he isn't a bad dribbler but tends to focus on his passing strength and have you ever seen anyone time their runs better to the edge of the box then Lampard? Game after game, left foot, right foot it all goes to the same place, the back of the net.

If Gerrard is 4 litre, v8, turbo charged mid-field engine. He's the complete mid-fielder, then he must be one that breaks down alot compared to Lampard.

The defensive comparsions are ludacris, both can defend. Lampard wins the ball week in week out at Chelsea and then one long pass and someone is running onto it, inch perfect and Gerrard does the same. Gerrard is a leader for Liverpool, and he honours that captains arm band, but Frank is a leader also maybe not of the same calibare as Gerrard because he doesn't have the arm band and may not express himself as much but he is a team man.

And Lampard stands up for the big games but not every player stands up every big game there are times players have failed to shown up, however can any one deny Lampard didn't stand up against Barcelona? Bayern? and many times in the EPL when we needed a decesive strike to win the game 1-0.

Lampard is better then Gerrard but both are fantastic players.

1) Why does it matter who's better, they're both going to be at Chelsea next year (H)

2) If I had first pick for a soccer game and I had to win this one game, and the pick was between these two guys, I would take Lampard and not even think twice.

3) If I had to pick one player for my club team to be with me for his entire career, I take Gerrard. He's younger and all around more talented. Lampard wasn't as good as he is now when he was Gerrard's age, he's worked his ass off; Gerrard is an incredibly hard worker and in the future he could be the absolute best player in the world. And with all due respect to Lampard's offensive game, Gerrard has the best long shot from the midfield of any player I've ever seen in my life.

i do agreed stevie g is a bit overated, i think xabi can beat him any given day in the art of passing.. but my heart still goes with stevie for this vote...:ewan:

If I could rep for a post on this site, I would right here

If we are judging based upon how good a player is, I think youd be hard pressed to say Lampard isnt the better. I understand he is nothing without people feeding him the ball and all that, but his ability to just turn it on and provide the offense when Chelsea is shuffling is brilliant

Now, since Gerrard is going to be at his club for a while, I think he will eventually be better, because he will be focused entirely on developing his game, and not on the distractions of transfer politics. If he can make his team consistent (the operative word in this thread) by being consistent, then he can become better than Lamps now is...but thats still a very high mark from, say, this season

I think a grossly oversimplified way of putting it is that, until this point, Lampard has overachieved for his talent past Gerrard, who hasnt quite fulfilled his

I can see why who would want to turbo charge a v8

Overall
Lampard 50/60 Gerrard 49/60
Frank Lampard just nicks it by one point, although they are both great players and in my opinion, have not yet reached the top of their game. I also believe that Gerrard does not always live up to his reputation in big games where as Lampard is excellent every minute he is on the pitch.

Gerrard's got some long shots too ya know. Man U 2002? Olympiakos 2004? Middlesborough 2005? His hat-trick against AK Graz CL qualifying was fantastic. (Yeah the score was 2-0, but he scored an amazing 3rd which was wrongly ruled off)

Anyways, Gerrard
