freezing in multiplayer

ok, i tried to play via modem with my friend,
he check option "wait dial", than I call him, but every time when connection is established mine and his computer freeze.
both of us have windos XP,

could any1 help me to solve this problem

when the conection is slow, the computer seems like froze, so juts wait a little, like about a minute, if it does not connect, try direct IP...

forget it damn ea guys only care for broadbanders if u try by ip make sure that nothing else is using bandwith
