They hate soccer and try everything to make fun of it or put it down. I just heard later on sportscenter they said "the mls sent it's stars to spain, best mls has to offer.... and it wasn't even close" They'll prob rip on them too. I'm just tired of it, almost like people want to hate it over here.

Yea man, it's ESPN. Lets make a business plan, propose it to some bank, and make a new station that shows how much soccer rules. In between games, we'd make fun of american football, baseball, and the like. I think that's a genious idea.

yeah, ESPN sucks. i just hope FSC can wrestle the UCL license away from them when its up for grabs in the states. i'd like to see them stick that in their ol' onion bag.

You guys are idiots. The MLS does suck by comparison to the best leagues in the world, that's not a knock on soccer, it's a knock on the ****ty MLS.

so? did you watch the game? they are saying the truth: Real Madrid owned the MLS 'All Stars'. Donovan was a ghost, they had only 4 shots on goal in 90 min, and none of them were dangerous.

it was a friendly, but it became an exhibition match soon (6)

That is so true. However ESPN is not a very pro soccer channel and i feel that they will find a way to put down the game in one way or the other.

Exactly: even if they had a point about the team getting crushed in Madrid, ESPN is still run by a bunch of braindead corporate whores. They shi[/I]t on hockey (long before the lockout they were at it), they barely even acknowledge soccer is a sport, yet they actually believe that people want to see Chris Moneymaker or that fag in those glasses with the holographic eyeballs ( :| ) play Poker 40 times daily, in between Woody "living proof of what you can achieve despite slight retardation" Paige and Skip ":|" Bayless out-shouting eachother about the reprocussions of T.O. going to subway. I swear steven a. smith was hired just to make those two look less clueless and obnoxious by comparison

Dont get me wrong, there are some good points to the network, but their terrible coverage and simple lack of coverage of both hockey and soccer, as well as other sports is simply sad.

ESPN is full of ****, simple as that. Though I do like that new dunking contest show they have. One guy freakin jumped over a car and did MJ's kiss the rim dunk. :rockman:

Wrong.

Knocking on a league that is only 10 years old is idiotic.

they lost 5-0, so thats an accurate statement

keep in mind this was Real Madrid they played, essentially a world all-star team that plays together all the time. A lot of teams would lose 5-0 there, so I don't think it's such a failure or an accurate representation of MLS's quality.

I do agree that some Networks from the US do seem to try and take little shots at soccer now and then, I dunno if it's some attempt to damage the sports popularity or progress, but it does happen. Used to be like that in Canada, but for the most part the sports channels here are actually quite soccer-friendly. There are still occasions though on some sports talk shows where you'll hear some idiot who doesn't know squat saying stuff about soccer, like it's a pansy sport or it's borring etc..

I know I'm gonna get hated upon by y'all, but I believe that this time, ESPN had every right to bash MLS. The scoreboard only told half the story. Real Madrid outplayed the MLS XI in every aspect of the game. Donovan and co. should consider themselves extremely fortunate that it only finished 5:0. What happened at the Bernebéu is a statement that MLS, while having made giant strides towards acceptance in the international soccer community and in the American sports market in its first decade, still has a long way to go.

The only player I saw that tried and did allright on the MLS team was Cunninghamn... everyone else played like crap.... but like the commentators said these guys only had 36 hours to practice together. Against a team that has practiced almost ALL summer.... the match shouldnt have even taken place to begin with :kader: :kader:

yeah, and the day before the match, they decided to go to the museum instead of training :chew: :fool:

It's a friendly so it doesn't matter anyway. It was good practice for Real Madrid. I'm sure it would have only been 3-0 if they had come prepared.... :amika:

Well, the MLS can atleast take some comfort in the FACT that it's a greater league than the Scottish Premier League.
