Hello all!
I'm new to this forum, new to FIFA and new modding in general. I'm looking to accomplish something very specific: I want to make the game more responsive, and be more in control of the action. To wit: I want the pass/shot/etc. to go in EXACTLY the direction I indicate, at EXACTLY the weight I specify, exactly WHEN I hit the button, 100% of the time. Under the manual pass assistance setting, the note at the bottom says the weight of the pass will be "slightly affected" by the length of time the A button is held down. It's that "slightly" that I have a problem with. My own human fallibility results in plenty of mistakes; I don't need the game to also hold me down and spank my titties.

How can I go about this? What sorts of tools and learning do I need to start making these kinds mods? Has anyone made any similar previous efforts? Thanks very much in advance!

Pass error and shot error sliders, adjust to suit. That's it.

Those help with the game handicapping my passes and shots (in terms of direction) but the game still won't execute a shot until the defender has a chance to catch up, my defenders still settle the ball in the box when I'm tapping X as fast as I can (into the path of an oncoming striker >:( ). Sometimes my player sprints when I press RT; sometimes he tiptoes. Sometimes the player will just start running; other times he'll execute some fake move I didn't ask for before running.

Sometimes this helps me, usually not. Either way, there's no way to tell what the game is going to do, making it impossible to learn and adjust. So.... any way to make the play feel more "tied" to my controller?

doubtful as the game is scripted in that manner.

the best thing you can do is get used to it, as you said sometimes it helps and
sometimes it doesn't.

as in life you take the good with the bad and make the best of it.

That is easily fixed by raising the Accel slider a few points.

As for your comment about the game not allowing you to execute shots until CPU players catch up... it doesn't happen like that. There is no AI logic or programming that stops you from shooting. One issue with FIFA has always been with the default ratings and settings. They're set too high, making the CPU unrealistically quick and responsive. I fix that by globally lowering a number of ratings including speed, accel, agility, vision and reaction. All players in my game are rated 1-39 in those categories, with only the top 200 players rated higher. I also lower all team def aggression ratings to similar levels. These edits lower CPU reaction, speed and aggression to realistic levels. I'm then able to play on legendary difficulty, which I prefer because there are more fouls on the higher difficulty levels, plus the defender positioning logic is smarter for both CPU and CPU-controlled User players.

Interesting idea. How do you accomplish this? With the sliders, or a modding tool?

I have instances in nearly every match I play where the game flat-out refuses to clear a ball in the box. With the shooting thing, it seems like quite often my player will take several extra steps before shooting, sometimes not (same thing with nearly every area of the game). This unpredictability makes timing nearly impossible, which takes away one of the most crucial aspects of the sport. I was hoping for some way so that the instant I release 'X', the ball is shot.

How about disabling the emotion system, whatever that's called?

Edit the game as instructed.
Re-read post #4.

In the arena, you can see that it sometimes requires an extra 1/2 step or even full step to properly position the player before shooting. That's not an issue, that's realistic. And maybe it has as much to do with the animation system, either way there's an element of realism to it, I personally don't see it as a game play issue. Also, you don't seem to be taking player ratings into account. You seem to want all players to do whatever you want them to do. But a player with 40 shot power won't be able to clear the ball properly. A player with 50 finishing will not be able to place the ball exactly where you aim it. And especially if you clear or shoot using his weak foot.

Anyway, fire up rinaldo's tools and start editing, it's the only hope you have of fixing the game the way you want it to play. Set player ratings for all players to 99 and try that, maybe that's what you're looking for. And use either Fidel's GP Evo 3.0 cl.ini or Shorelooser's FIFA 14 cl.ini. Both get rid of the CPU cheats that cause some of the questionable AI behaviour.
