Gamepad or Keyboard ?

I went out and bought a Micro$oft Sidewinder Pro USB for Fifa 2002, but it had configurations issues that were never fixed in that game ( EA are not big on patches )

I have used it in Fifa 2003, but feel more comfortable on the keyboard, I dont think I like using the D-pad for movement.

Is it easier using one of the Dual Analog controllers ? , and which ones do and dont work for the freestyle control.

from what i've been reading the logitech range is quite good and most importantly compatible with the game.
