Gameplay frustration

Hi everyone,
since I started playing FIFA06 I have the same problem which is really frustrating me: taking the ball away from the CPU's player. It seems to me a very stupid gameplay the one set in the game, because independently from my players tackling and strenght the CPU is always dancing with the ball around my players and I can hardly take the ball from the player's feet.
The contrast taste (D on the keyboard) does not help, with the A taste I get yellow or red.
I also changed team strategy to 4-3-3, 4-3-2-1, 4-2-4 but the result is always the same. I am playing semi-pro and is really stupid and demotivating only looking at the cpu players making every kind of moves with the ball while I can't do anything. Only in a few cases I can steal the ball but only if I am very close to the opponent and in circumstances not depending on what taste I am slamming!!!!!!!

How do you get rid of this annoying feature?

Comments would be appreciated.

Well Peppino,

I had the exact same frustration you had and that was because I was used to all the previous Fifa's gameplay and I was playing it the "old way" and I also was like "WTF?" when the opponent stole my ball like it was a piece of cake and I couldn't get it back.

So I played some games in amateur mode to see what gives, in that mode the opponent is a lot slower than he is even in semi-pro mode and I found out that it is of absolutely no use tapping the shoot button continuously to steal it back like in for example 2005, it won't work, and if you continue to follow the opponent with the same player you fail to steal the ball with, he will dance around you and you won't be able to catch it.

So how does it work? When the opponent has the ball you have exactly one chance to steal it back per player with the shoot button like it was before, however you need to position yourself next to him (while running) but preferably in front of him, you then need to push shoot at the exact moment when he gets near you, facing you, you will either a) steal the ball or b) fail to steal the ball if you are in front of him or push him with your ellbow or arm if you run near him again getting either a) or b)

In the beginning b) will happen a lot more than a) so if you fail, immediately switch to another player and try to steal the ball again with the shoot button until you succeed, pushing the long ball button to do a sliding tackle is only last resort, especialy from behind, you'll always end up with a card, you should only do this when Thierry Henry is running alone towards goal for example.

In Fifa06 we have to set our pride aside and switch to amateur mode to learn the new gameplay correctly, once you get the hang of it move on to semi-pro (it gets tougher) and so on. Currently I am on pro mode and I think I'll stay there a long time as now I'm really struggling to win a match.

I bitched on 06 gameplay in previous posts, and I still feel that despite being a lot harder than previous Fifa's it isn't more "realistic" (like you only get one chance to steal the ball with D-button, yeah right as if Nesta will leave the attacker alone if he fails to steal the ball once lol), but once I adapted it's feeling ok now, in fact when I go back to Fifa2005 where I play career mode in now, I actualy miss some stuff I learned to master in 06 gameplay.

The gameplay

Thank you soooo much Billy, I really appreciated your reply. I will do what you suggested and I hope I will really start to enjoy the game.

Cheers,

Peppino
