Lampard for me. Less injury prone, scores more, creates more, tackles more does more ... Gerrard is a bit more of a talented Robbie Savage - a lot of huff and puff with some reward. Lampard just seems to keep a game ticking in Chelsea's advantage, but can also do the brilliant to save points and win matches (see the 1-1 draw vs. Everton for an example, great individual effort).
Gerrard is not a bad second choice though - easily the two best English midfielders right now.

reading through this thread, you can go on and on about who's better. i really can't stay...that's how close it is between the two of them. all i know is most teams would love to have that kind of problem: how do you keep gerrard and lampard on the same team.
but if i was starting a team, and if i had to choose between the two players, i would pick gerrard. no slight on lampard because he's a player i highly respect. it's amazing to see how much he's improved and where is he is now. but if i had to pick between them to start a team, i'd take gerrard. people forget how he single handedly carried liverpool on his back two seasons ago.

If lampard is a product purely of the talent around him, then why did his game improve internationally? Surely Roman's money couldnt buy him a better team out there, could it?
And on another note, everyone is talking about how Gerrard is the better leader, when Lampard himself does not have to lead.

he is vocal, the public face of the team even more than JT and raises his game and the game of those around him when its needed. I dont suppose people are going to start claiming Carragher lacks leadership qualities then. The bottom line is that point of comparison is an uneven playing field.
At the end of the day, unless Steven Gerrard translates his greater potential into being
consistantly better than Lampard, posterity will remember one as a good player and the other as a true great

lampard deserved to come 2nd cos hes been playin to the best of his abilitys for the past couple of years. gerrard hasnt been at his best for the past couple but even still in my opinion its stupid to consider lampard a better player.

It does not take the best team in Europe to win the CL,as you well know.If that was the case ,then Liverpool would never have won it this time,because they were far down the list of the best in Europe.
A few lucky breaks and a crazy 45 minutes out of a whole season,does not qualify Liverpool as the BEST in Europe.

I think Gerrard is way better than Lampard, cause Gerrard makes the team work (one example the UCL Final) and Lampard is a good player too, but Gerrard is better!!

if we're considering talent alone there are much more talented players out there than Gerrard or Lampard, that are not even close to the level of both players we're discussing in this thread.

Still think its wrong for people to say Lampard is a better shooter than Gerrard in such a clear cut way. Lampard gets the more goals because of his attacking position given to him. Gerrard plays further back, or on the right, he doesn't get into the box as often but still scores a fair share. Gerrard has scored some class goals, much harder strikes than Lampard has scored.

By my last post i meant we shouldnt judge players solely on their personal titles or for their team titles. My logic for Continental Champion player vs England Champion Player is just as poor as yours, saying a player that won X award is better than the one that won Y award. It takes many other facts to easy who is better or not, and it's pretty much controversial. I agree, Lampard is more consistent, but when Gerrard decides to shine, he's England's best player hands down.
He doesnt do it day in day out, but he's doing it more regularly. And he's done it on decisive times.
