Getting pissed

Every time I play WC2002 I get more and more frustrated with my teams performance. I just played three friendly games with Brazil against Greece on pro and it's the same as with any team:
an air-ball in offence or defence, my player and the opponents player both try to head it, but every f'in time my player just falls down and the computer player gets the ball. And if he can jump up, then his behind the other guy and theres no way of moving him around before the ball lands, which sucks. And on defence, why oh why oh why can't those other idiots that call themselves defencemen run to the box when I'm controlling their friend? How the hell am I going to play good defence if I have to manually bring every guy down to the box! And the tricks, if I try to run past a defender, I can make it, but if I try to go past him by making a nice trick -- noway jose. So what's the purpose of these tricks if you can't trick anyone? And one more; I can not count the number of times I've been on a "breakaway" and been tackled by the computer right on the legs and my player just stumbles a bit a never falls, if I tackle from the behind I get a red card every time!

same here..

I never finished any game in professional mode because its absolutely NOT PLAYABLE

Im playing Fifa for years now, 2002 was a big step ahead compared to 2001, but WC2002 is absolutely s*h*i*t

I never finished a match in professional because you get upset and bored after 2 minutes with this ridiculous gameplay

I ask myself if EA ever thought about testing a game before its going to be released.

80%-90% of my tackles fail, winning a header is a really lucky punch, there is no explanation why, every ridiculous SaudiArabian player wins headers and tackles against germans or other worldclass-teams, its so ridiculous and prooves that no one from EASports really cares for a good game, all they see is the cashmachine they got when buying the official licences

thinkin about the commentary makes me vomit, its so bad Im lack of words

this game is completely commercial

i don't agree

I agree that it is harder to play in WC 2002, but i don't agree it is totally "unplayable" in professional level, at least without changing the game, still i can win a lot of games in professional mode, for World Class.... it is unplayable..... all running and tackles are useless...as CPU is crazy

but after changing the ini file, the game becomes much easier, at least more or less similar as fifa2002, and i have won several times of world cup using different teams in world class mode

Initially I also had a hard time getting the hang of controlling my players, after 2 weeks of trying and reading the threads in the forum, i've been able to win the world cup in professional mode(i haven tried world class yet). here are a few tips which i hope can help:

1) heading: as soon as the ball is in the air, hold down the button(pass, shoot, lob). do NOT power up the headers over the halfway mark of the meter. you should be able to head the ball. it works for me 80% of the time. (i still need to improve, nothing to do with the CPU, just my skills)

2) tricks: i didn't use any tricks except for one in the manual, faking a shot, pass or lob. To fake, hold down shoot, pass or lob. As the power meter increases, hold down the "Ballspin right" and "Ballspin left" buttons (On keyboard, "Z" and "C"). you should be able see ur player faking and dribbling. One point to note: be as close to the opponent as possible in order to get him to commit his tackle. then he will fall or slow down.

3) tackling: try to get in front or beside your opponent and then run alongside him. then press ur conservative tackle button (On Keyboard, "D"). 10 out of 10 you should be able to get the ball.

Just my own opinions, hope it can help.:)

Gotta say.

I haven't reallt had too much trouble with the heading. If you time the button pushing you win more than your fair share. Also the tackling is fine as long as you do it from the right angle. If anything the tackling on WC2002 is more accurate than ever in terms of winning the ball compared to a real life game. Tackling from behind and bringing the player down should result in red cards, that's what the Fifa official rules stae even if most refs in real life don't apply it very strictly.

I think a lot of people are putting down the game before getting use to it. Once you master the gameplay you can compete on Professional level, it's just more difficult which is fun because if after less than two weeks we were all winning the world cup on every difficulty level the game would be truly pointless.

Well the computer plays a hell of a lot better than me. If I was younger I would devote the time to figuring out how to beat the machine. But, EA should have a setting titled, "Semi-Professional."

Am still not sure what decides who wins the header duel. COuld anyone elaborate a bit?

On amateur, the ball is in the air, we're fighting for it...I can quite easily gain possession.

On professional, 9 out of 10 times, the computer wins. This is especially annoying when he does hisw favourite 'kick the ball up and then easily win the header duel, be 1 on 1 with goalie and score' trick.

Am having problems in these duels - rest is fine, but if you lose 9/10 of these duels, it's really hard to win games.

So if it is timing, how do you time it? is it who presses first? Or who presses when the ball is the right distance from them?

Great game, but it's frustrating to always lose those duels.

never expected to change my mind, but with the new gameplay the game isnt that bad (besides the common bugs)
:D

I recommend to try the gameplay-Patch at www.fifafx.de when you are sick of loosing tackles, headers and ridiculous goalies !

It will fix most annoying mistakes and furthermore it will increase your control of shooting and passing.

Now its possible to pass the opponent with a short tip on the pass or lob-button. Just run and catch the ball again. It works ;)

I recommend it too!!! I certainly have more fun playing WC2002 now!
The only problem is that it makes the game too easy on professional level, but I guess that's because of the AI... Still, it's a must have.

Give it a try!

You can score on headers!
I've done that a several times now, and when I played as professional against Brazil I scored a diving nick with Anders Svensson from Sweden.

Just try to get in front of the defenders when you're doin' a cross into the box, and try to give more power to the header.
