Golden Cup

Apparently, there's a meeting in Madrid next week about a possible new European midweek tournament.

I have no details other then that both Rangers and Celtic have confirmed that they have been invited to join.

Has anyone else heard anything about it? WHat other clubs sides are involved? Is this a move to ditch the Champions' League?

its meant to be a rival to the champions league . they talk about it all time and it would be a European Super league . it wont happen for quite some time

I've heard of various other proposed breakaway competitions in the past - the North Atlantic League (which was supposed to be a league for the top teams in nations such as Holland, Belgium, Portugal, Scotland and the Scandanavian countries) and there was talk of a North Atlantic Cup, again involving teams from those nations.

But this Golden Cup is a new one and is to comprise 24 club sides. The fact that the meeting is being held in Spain suggests that perhaps the top rank nations, such as Spain, are involved.

The meeting is tomorrow so I'll be interested to see what the exact proposals are and who is participating in the talks.

I heard that it would be a league of ten teams from Northern Europe (most probably the Scandinavian Countries and Scotland). I know talks are going ahead but I dont think anything is yet confirmed.
