Has Uruguay become (again) the most hated team in world football?

Their horrid 1986 performance destroyed this tiny football nation's reputation for over a decade. And now, again. I feel that they crossed the line this time. Defending Suarez like they did was out of hand. And he should apologize. I'm a big admirer of their style and history. But for me, they acted very rashly trying to justify his behaviour. It's rough that they're seen as the villains again. But so were Argentina in 1990 and 1994. IMO, Suarez was going to become the new Maradona. But now his career sadly seems to be over.

i don't hate them, a lot of talent comes out of that small country.

as far as suarez goes i can't begin to understand what goes through his mind when he decides to start chewing on people like a rabid mutt.

once his ban is up he should only be allowed to step foot on a pitch with a muzzle on his face.

No.

People hate Suarez because he's feral and bites people. I don't think most people feel one way or the other about Uruguay.

People just think Uruguay is a tiny strip between Paraguay and Argentina that no one knows who it belongs to. Suarez is the only one they care about.

the 2010 handball already antagonized Suárez, and showed how Uruguayans would blindly support their player ... the difference this time is that it's for an incident rooted in insanity rather than desperation ...

Not all of them, there was an article in eurosport and many Uruguayan fans actually criticized his actions ...

The handball is irrelevant. Except for the vocal minority + Ghana fans. The issue is this incident with the Italian player.

The Von Trapps
not irrelevant at all ... it goes against any notion of sporting behaviour ... like I said, the difference is that it was rooted in insanity (this time) vs. desperation (last time) ...

Aside from the biting and the Evra incident it's the first thing I associate with Suarez.

I was more outraged about the handball than the biting.

That said, their turning a blind eye and defending him as a collective group is quite pathetic.

It's irrelevant, because...honestly, the vast majority of people I've ever interacted with (along with national polls, and nearly any thread talking about it today) view that as a positive thing. (unless you're Ghanaian or English lol!) :wootman: We're talking about this negative one.

In South America, the "Hand of God 2" is seen as one of the top 5 most brilliant moments in the continent's history. It's celebrated mainstream all the time. I've seen it. And that's football's co-most important continent. But I get that some people would be bitter. Mexico, for ex, have never made a Semi Final ever. And yet Uruguay makes it to their 5th Semi Final with that fluke 1 in a million play? Damn, I'd be bitter too. :f***:
