Celtic deny Hasselbaink bid

Celtic insist that they have not offered a contract to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after negotiating his release from Chelsea.

His agent, Humphry Nijman, had said that he had received an offer from a Scottish club, which would suggest that Rangers are the interested club.

"There is also interest from Spain and England," said Nijman.

"He has not reached a decision yet. He is looking at some possibilities and will start speaking to people soon."

Hasselbaink reached an agreement with Chelsea on Wednesday to be released from the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Celtic and Rangers, who have refused to comment about the Dutchman, are the only Scottish clubs capable of matching his likely wage demands.

It was initially suggested that Scottish Champions Celtic were the likely bidding club as they are guaranteed a place in the Champions League and are keen to find a striker who can fill the void left by Henrik Larsson, who has joined Barcelona.

Rangers had also been linked with the 32-year-old former Netherlands international, but the Ibrox club have a large debt burden and must qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

While another English Premiership would be an attraction, Nijman said: "The club he decides to join will be a club who matches his own ambitions.

"There is also a very lucrative proposal from Japan, but Jimmy is not keen on moving there.

"He has no preference as to which league he plays in. What he wants is to join an ambitious club who are moving forward.

"He is still very ambitious as a player and wants to go where he can win trophies."

interesting.... why the heck would he want to play in Scotland?? i hope he signs for Rangers if he does decided to come. Prso and Hasselbaink would make a pretty good attack by SPL standards.

O'Neil wants Amoroso to join Celtic for the American tour only [without pay or a guaranteed contract, mind you]. When the tour is done O'Neil will maybe sign him, provided if he likes Amoroso or not. I don't think Amoroso will settle for those kind of terms, though. BVB offered him a second chance, I'm still oblivious if he will accept a second chance or not.

I never heard of him being offered a second chance, but yeh that would be cool.

Maybe if Gilagol leaves Parma then he may head back there.

As long as he is playing regualr football in a decent standard thats all that matters. Would be a shame for his talent to go to waste.

i dont think hasselbank is the type of play we should be chasing, what is 31, 32? too find someone to play in the spot the GOD did we should be going after someone a tad younger not a quick fix type of player.

Capucho hardly constitutes washed up. Not so long ago he was doing great stuff in Europe. I think he just didn't fancy Scotland really. Cadete I'll give you I suppose.
