Help! Fifa does not start!!!

Hallo,

I’ve just installed my FIFA Football 2002. Everything went well and now I have my Fifa icon on the desktop.
But when I want to run the game (either with a double click or with autorun – it doesn’t matter) windows shows for about 10 seconds an hourglass but then does not switch to the game but show the desktop again.
The weird thing is that in the task list (ctrl-alt-del) “FIFA2002” ist listed!

Does anybody have the same problem? Or solved it? Who can help me?

My system configuration:
Pentium3 with 500 mhz and 256 mb ram
Cd/dvd drive by nec
Enough disc drive space
Voodoo3 (with newest drivers; I have already tested all different options in the 3d-setup of fifa2002 (glide and d3d)
Directx 8.0
Usb-mouse by Logitech

PLEASE HELP!!!!

You have similar system specs to mine (but I have a little less RAM) and it works for me.

Well if you feel under-qualified at all maybe you should try inserting the CD or turning the computer on?

Nah seriously, I wouldn't have a clue, try and reinstall it.

I reinstalled the game several times (also from my 2nd drive - ricoh cd-rw); but with no positive result.

Does nobody else have similar problems??

yes i have the same problem i think that it is direct x8.0 i think the first time u install fifa u need direct x7.0 but i dont now how to get it now i have direct x8.1a

I don't believe it is a directx problem. Because I use 8 and have no problems.
Are you running a firewall, I has noticed that sometimes as soon as I would disable my firewall then the game would load up. It seemed to want to wait for internet acces sometimes before it would load up the game.

Software packages hate each other, so keep them away from each other.

The best thing to do is uninstall the game, then turn off all background programs, apart from Explorer and Systray, by pressing Ctrl+Alt +Del, select a program from the list and click "end task". When only Explorer and Systray are left, install the game and run it. Whenever you run the game, you will need to turn off the programs as above, as it is likely that something is conflicting, most likely your virus protection software.

Just wait !

Doubleclick your Desktop-Icon and wait up to minimum 3minutes, before doin anything else.
Im sure the problem is Fifa2002-online-check. It seems as Fifa trys to say hello to EA whenever it is started. Maybe its needed for online gaming to configure something, but Im sure its just to give EA feedback about FIFA usage and their customers.

Being online will give my Fifa a boost at startup, whereelse it takes very long when being offline !

So just wait some moments, maybe it will help.
