i want to back up all the data on my computer but i can't really seem to do it any way.

i had a program to do that on my computer Roxio cd burner but now that doesn't work and then when i try to open up the blank disc in the D drive it says that it isn't accessible and the incorrect function.

How can i start using my Cd-R drive again.?

ah now it starts to make sense! :D

Well basically you need to get a new burner program :) have a look on www.download.com to see what freeware or trials you can get hold of.

Also, for backups CDs may take a while with a big system. I'd advise (if you've got the money) in investing in a DVD-RW and some rewriteable DVDs, or even a secondary hard drive to back things up onto. I kinda use a mixture of the two together along with other networked computers in my house and it works better than having to burn CDs all the time. But if it's only a small amount of data, CDs are most probably fine.

Ok.....so you have to tell us what u did in the 1st place so that we can tell you what you gotta do. CD drives dont normally disappear like that........

Go over to the Device Manager(right click "my computer" & look around) & see if your CD drive is still listed there. If it aint, the drive might be screwed.......

or you'll just have to open ur pc case and remove & put back the all the cable that are connected to your drive. Also there is a chance your IDE cable just has a somekind of problem and replacing it with a new one might fix the problems.

Ok....i think Alex is right. What that means is that the comp aint detecting ur drive. You gotta open up your comp & check the connections. If its too hot for you to handle....just get a professional on the scene k.

another thing, i forgot to mention, is to check if your system from the BasicInputOutputSystem can see the device from there (or at least see if it shows up durring "post", if you're too affraid to do the bios thing). If it does the problem is just OS related.
