I've always wondered what the difference is between holland and the netherlands is.

Are they the same place but with a different name?

Why not only one name?

why the hell does there have to be two!?

Holland is actually the north-western side of The Netherlands, which the country is called officially. I don't know why they call us Holland actually.

It sucks to say Niederlande or Netherlands it's way too long :D
Holland is much shorter and sounds better than Netherlands/Niederlande

Meh, it's Nederland anyway in Dutch.

In Norway we also say Nederland, but some (older people) say Holland. Nederland sounds much better anyway I think.

Yeah The Netherlands is the proper name for the country, but it was world known as Holland aswell

Holland is really just two provinces of the Netherlands (North Holland and South Holland)

Maastricht(H) Down south, and the one who said people living in the south don't like our countre being called Holland. It's true. As you can see I live in the south side and I know a lot of people who don't like the Name Holland.

People from Limburg and N-Braband often don't like ''Nederland from above the big rivers'' Which are de Maas and de Rijn.

so where do all the Dutch SG guys live?

when i lived in Holland when i was little we lived in a house in Scheveningen, minutes away from a tram stop that would take us to The Hague in 2 or 3 minutes :)

then we moved overseas but we had family in Culemborg, then they moved to a nice little town called Leerdam in Gelderland :)

Scheveningen is cool. I live in Voorschoten which is right next to Leiden which is 30km from Amsterdam, 15km from The Hague/Scheveningen and 30km from Rotterdam (which isn't that great) so I'm pretty central to all the great cities and nightlife:p

not really looking for nightlife in rotterdam :o (can do that in the state). but rather football. and its foreign, so that makes up for the not that greatness of the city.

In Portuguese it's Holanda. But I think there might be another name for it. Like Os Netherterras, though that sounds very stupid... :crazyboy:
