Holland vs Australia [R]

Important match for the Dutch, last one before the WC and also an important test for us as the men in orange presented the hardest challenge we faced before taking on Japan in game 1.

I think we performed very well to be honest. Taking into consideration how we were under Farina i think that side would have crumbled under Hollands early pressure. Despite conceeding a somewhat sloppy goal we held onto our belief and fought for 90 minutes and grabbed a deserved draw.

The Australian side is showing the belief and tenacity that Hiddink installed in the South Koroeans last WC and its a real confidence booster to have such a strong result so close to the finals.

Well done lads!
Looking forward to a enjoying 90 minutes smearing Lichtenstein across the park and then onto the hallowed World Cup turf for the real deal!! :)

Although the Dutch were really unlucky today the Aussies proved that they are no pushovers. If they defend well and launch some successful counter attacks they will surprise some teams at the WC.

Oh and Hiddink is a genius. He always gets the best out of his teams.

scrappy game, very physical. A great test for us against our world cup opponents. If we fought Holland off to a 1-1 draw, we can beat Japan and Croatia.

really impressed with how Hiddink shuffled the side after we were down to 10 men...simply fantastic (Y)

Australia will fight very hard for a 2nd place in the group; it will an very even fight, but they have reasonable chances. Oh yes, Aussies got some hard tackles flying around - we'd better watch out.

What the hell are you all talking about, we should've won the game with 3-1 maybe even 4-1 we were very unlucky with the chances and the freekick from van Persie was a beauty but against the post.
Sure Australia played some good football but they were butchers in midfield, Sneijder is badly injured thanks to that, Cocu had to leave the pitch limping off and Gio has an injury as well.
Thank you very much Australia, thanks to you we have a big problem now one week before the start, the way the tackles were made (mostly with 2 feet) is a disgrace! :nape:

Sure Hiddink is a genious what else is new but he needs to speak very firmly to some guys in the team especially that damn idiot Wilkshire, the way he attacked Gio was a joke :nape: and he deservedly was sent off too..
One thing I have to say though, Schwarzer is a damn good goalkeeper and thanks to them Australia got a draw and Viduka is their best man along with Kewell who didn't even played. Surprised to see that Cahill was a sub and not a selectionplayer.

Holland should have scored more, Australia played well. Hiddink tactics were very good and Australia is so much better than before Hiddink.

And Sneijder injured himself, Cocu was bad luck, only Wilkshire's tackle was stupid so all the talk about the tackles from Australia is crap.

Crap match this, looking at the first half we deserved to win this. And 3 injuries to 3 important people, thanks Aussies!

Oh and BTW who other than Timmy to level it. :rockman:

a tough draw but we though it was going to be a matter of damage control. someone needs to have a wisper in 'Dukes ear about his spot kicks....

Wilkshire's tackle was a bit off, but he was going for the ball. it was over the top for a friendly. mind you he does play in Crystal Palace. from that to playing against holland is a big step up. a deserved red card.

Guus did an amazing job rearranging the defense after that.

and please someone have a word to Robben re: staying on his feet...
he easily breezed past all of the Aussie defense but then threw himself on the ground. bizzare. maybe he never had a trampoline when he was a kid.

good luck to Holland for next week.

What can I say..... the Serbs promised 100,000 for every player unable to take the field on Sunday :jambo: :jambo:

Obviously we're not nearly at the level to be seriously challenging against this level of opponent, but get rid of the wastes-of-space Sterjovski and Wilkshire and replace them with Kewell and Cahill, and I think we've got a chance of progressing through the group.

Oh and if only Moore and Emerton were even half the players that they were 4 years ago :nape: :nape: :nape:

Gareth

Starting XI
Wil****es (purposeful typo) tackle was a straight red, ref took the soft option.

Emerton was out of his depth, he was slaughtered.

Viduka... well NEVER take a penalty again.

As for Cocu's injury, he fell over himself... goose.

You can whinge all you like about 'we should have won by this much, or by that'... the fact remains YOU DIDN'T... yes the Aussies were lucky, but many teams are in football, and in my experience you make you're own luck.

1st half ****e, 2nd half alot better, i think wilshire brought out this "personality" that hiddink was looking for, i was the victim of one of those tackles just last saturday, tell u its a bitch to be on the end of

ref had allowed play to continue and was coming back to book him, then he got gio with a good one (H) with kewell and cahill both starting next week i reckon we are a huge chance to make it through to the knockout phase.

I think, as I have all along, that we'll falter - probably leaving Germany with only a point from the Japan game. How I hope I'm wrong.

Deutschland

Starting XI
I'm a little more optimistic, but our defence is a joke. Hopefully Schwarzer can have a brilliant cup. I'm not too worried about our ability to create chances & convert them, but stopping Croatia and Japan from creating them will be tough :(
