i've saved a couple of replays so i could show my friends, with whom i play multiplayer fifa, the realism of WE6. last night i finally convinced one of them to come over to my place and check it out. i showed him a goal i scored with ajax versus marseille -- a simple through ball to the wing who then slides a cross between three defenders to the striker who tucks it inside the far post. then i replayed it from the overhead angle and i said, "the real difference is, you don't have to figure out how to beat the computer at its own game, like fifa. you have to think like an actual soccer match and build your plays." he was staring at the replay and he said, "that looks like a fox sports world highlight."
but it gets better. we played a couple matches so he could get the feel of the controls. then we bumped it up a difficulty level and played as the netherlands in the world cup. by the second game we were playing "total football" -- overlapping runs, three- and four-player moves with quick passing, goalmouth scrambles, crosses flying all over the place. in the third match we were level 2-2 with nigeria and we had to beat them because we'd already drawn italy. with a few minutes left i split the defense with a long through pass. from the right wing (3-4-3 formation) my friend sprints in with makaay at full gallop. he just beats the defender to the ball, nudges it forward and then lashes a smoking grounder past the keeper and inside the far post. we both lose our minds, jumping up and down like we'd just won the real damn cup.
i've never seen a play even remotely that realistic and dramatic in a fifa match. we probably watched it 10 times on replay. he was on the wing and soon as he saw van nistelrooy turn he knew what i was going to do. it was telepathic. he's already started the run when i released the pass.
as good as this game is in all aspects, playing with another person takes it to a whole different level. simply incredible. my hat is off to the konami development team.

Yep it's things like that which make the konami games blow away Fifa. Great stuff.

Much more realistic goals. No more mad dribble show 360 spin through everyone and slide kick CPU crap goals. I always hated that **** in FIFA.

i really didn't mean to make this a "WE6 is better than FIFA" thread. it just went that way because my friends and i play FIFA together. as a multiplayer, FIFA isn't so bad. by the same token, my friend never would have reached that pass on the same difficulty level in FIFA. the CPU would have cut him out and cleared it. instead, makaay got the jump into space. since he's a little faster than the defender and his first touch was perfect, it played out like the real thing.

....you cant even head the ball in FIFA...They should'nt have even released it IMO.....Its cool if your havin' fun with multiplayer of course, but damn...As far as games go, its just sooo bad....World Cup 2002 was more playable and enjoyable I thought.....but then again, I probably played FIFA 2003 for lke an hour before I realised it was an intentional jip

WAS having fun with multiplayer. it works because with 3 or 4 people you can make up for all the lousy AI. but i think we'll be playing WE6 from now on.
