How do i run FIFA 2003 smoothly???

Hey!!!

I've had this game since it came out and recently i realized that Its been running choppy when i came across the field that said to add

RENDER_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1

into the soccer.ini file

I added it, and fifa runs smoothly, but in slow motion.

I've got an ATHLON XP 1800+, 256 ram and ATI Radeon 7200 64MB DDR with the latest ATI drivers and WIndows XP

I play the game at 1024x768x32

does anyone know how i can get it not to run in slow motion?? to run smoothly at regular speed? I've tried reducing the resolution to 800x600x32 and medium details, but it still runs in slow motion

Can anyone help??

Thanks

the RENDER EVERY AI FRAME-command is just for EAsports debugging and not meant to smooth the game ;)

Just remove this command, than try to change the options of your graphicscard or maybe try to change the vsync-option in your Fifa2003\soccer.ini

// 0=fastest (unsynched or triple-buffered)
// 1=unsynched
// 2=synched
// 3=triple-buffered
VSYNC_MODE=0 <<<<<------ try all values between 0 and 3

Thanks for the reply

i tried what u suggest and there was no noticable change between 1,2,3

I also tried changing d3d and opengl options from my display setting to be geared more towards performance rather than quality, but still, the game play is not smooth.

somone posted a video a couple of days ago of his various fifa goals, the gameplay looks so smooth, just like on ps2 n xbox, but i can't seem to get that

does it work better under win 98?

do you or anyone else have any other suggestions??

Thanks

I can confirm that the game does run extremely smoothly with the following soccer.ini file for me and others i have spoken to :

//
// Main configuration file for FIFA 2003 PC
//

AUDIO = 1
VIDEO = 0

// 0 = fastest (unsynched or triple-buffered)
// 1 = unsynched
// 2 = synched
// 3 = triple-buffered
VSYNC_MODE = 0

RENDER_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1
DRAW_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1

AUDIO_SAFEMODE = 0

FOPTION_LOCALE_ID = 13

However this is ONLY under Win98. In XP I get slow motion no matter what settings I reduce. I have a Geforce 4 card + Directx 9, medium detail 800x600 16 bit ingame settings.

Hope this helps.

try to change baked ini =1 from the ini files in cfg_pc_m.ini in

FIFA 2003\data\cmn if u play in medium det or cfg_def.ini if u play in high

Be aware that in this way you wont have numbers on shorts!!

ALways make backup first

Some more interesting stuff.

For some reason the game seems to be the smoothest and fastest with an old version of Sameer's patch ver 4.4. the 5.4 version is just a little less smooth but ok. However I just tried Gante's big files and I get slow motion in 98 too. This happened with some other versions of Sameer's big files too. I have no clue why this is so but thats how it is for me :confused:

this is because of edditing one line present in ini.big.....
anyway,if u use ver 5.4 game will run smoothly even on low end machines

I think EA never heard about debugging ;)

Hey!!!

Thanks for everyone's response, i tried all of ur suggestions and here are the results

first off, vpol, i tried the chaning the bake value, and it didn't make any difference.

Second, i had 2 month old drivers, i updated to the latest and i already had dx9. THe new drivers didn't make much difference.

So now i tried adding

RENDER_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1
DRAW_EVERY_AI_FRAME = 1

to the soccer.ini file. the DRAW line didn't make a difference, i don't know what it is for.

as for the render, whenever i play at 32 bit, the game is in slow mo. whenever i play at high details, its slow mo. If i play at a resolution higher than 800x600, its slow mo.

so the only option that played good was 800x600x16 at medium details.

The game was decent, definitely much smoother than when i didn't have that line added in the ini file.

However the game sometimes plays at slo mo for a second n returns to normal or fast forwards for a second n returns to normal.

That got me thinking, could the problem be with the refresh rates of the monitor??

Does anyone play fifa very smoothly (as smooth as ps2 & xbox)??
what resolution do u play at and what video card do u have??

If anyone has any more suggestions, please reply n thnx for ur help so far.
