You need to run Windows XP in 16 bit desktop mode. If you have it set to 32 bit, then if your screensaver kicks in, or a variety of other things happen, you are left with just a black screen. Changing the mode while playing the game will fix this though. Unfortunately CM 01/02 isn't officially compatible with Windows XP, but most people use it without any crashes. I did have a few problems with screen corruption but the game didn't crash on me much.

I had the same problems regarding the screen corruption. I would leave my computer on and do some things around the house, and come back and while removing the screen saver im left with a black screen on CM.

The way to fix the minimization problem is to go to Game Options and switch it to Windowed Mode. I dunno if this fixes the inactivity freeze.

Me and my brother both play CM 01/02 on Windows XP. I have XP Pro, and it has run fine, never any problems. However, my brother has XP Home, and he says one in 4 times, when he tries to save it, it just hangs and he has to restart (even with autosave on). Maybe it doesnt work so well on XP Home, and does anyone have any idea as to how to fix my brothers CM problem?

01/02 ran much better for me on XP then it did on 98 Second Edition. See if windowed mode helps.
