How do you like the DEMO?

PLAYED IT. PLAYED IT.

Ok. Finally played the demo at my gfds house.

First of all, the graphics are the worse graphics I've ever ever seen. I think I know why though... it's either a half rendered version, or PC graphics are just horrible.

Now, any video you watch from the game, especially those from Game Informer, and you compare the graphics, they are just 10000000 times better than those of the demo. Now, you can say it's my graphics card and all, but I think my gfds machine is pretty good and can handle graphics well (can't tell you the specs 'cause I didn't check, though). Personally I don't think it's the machine's card that's making the game look horrible. I just think it's a half rendered version, or else the PS2 version is just absolutely gorgeous.

Now, moving on to how the game feels. It's kinda hard to say because of so many things missing, and plus playing with a keyboard, but overall (i set the game speed to slow and played 10 min halves) there are many more realistic passes, runs and a some realistic shots. I've noticed a couple of impossible shots take place, and that really sucks, but overall, the shots and passes are right on. Although game speed, even in slow is a tad bit fast for me still.

Gameplay: I believe it's a great improvement from 2003. There are many real things you can do with the ball, and actually seeing the ball deflect off someone (I scored one goal like that), and lose speed as it bounces off something is really impressive. I wouldn't still say it surpasses WE's ball physics, but it's right on most of the time.
Player runs and tactics especially with the AI are very scripted. Now, I think they just did that so it would fit in a 32mb demo, we should expect to see variations of tactics from the AI in the final version, although in World Class mode I did see some crossing and sideplays (Only 1 or 2 though).
Shooting is better than 2003, but there are still some weird stuff going on, but I managed to get by those superhuman shots by just barely touching the shot key (my power bar filled up to almost less than 1/4). I felt I didn't have much control over them though, it was just direction it and shoot it and hope for the best (most of the time the ball would curve to the outside, even though the kick was with the top of the foot—not impossible, but in my position, almost unlikely).
Headers worked nice, especially on corners. Defending headers were probably too hard and would always be down to the ground no matter how my player jumped.
Corners. It really sucks not being able to create a different play than sending it inside the box. IT SUCKS!!! They have to change on the final version otherwise it'll be extremely stupid. Besides that, when I was trying to get into position, it seemed as if my player and the defender were the only ones moving in the box... (doesn't that sound so unrealistic?)
Free kicks were nice, but I didn't have many (I played around 3-4 games, 10 min halves).
OTB, I used a keyboard, so to maneuver pressing Z while holding E so I could sprint, and choosing in btw 1,2,3 was too confusing, although I scored with Del Piero that way (A lob to the middle of the box, almost on the outside, where he just waited for the ball and kicked it into the bottom right of the net—Dida did jump on the ball though). Nice work on OTB, I think with a joystick will be even better.

I played my first few games in the normal mode and I was winning 9-3 at the beginning of the 2nd half (I played with Juve). Then I switched to world class and got spanked with a 4-1 in the first 10 min of the game (1-2 actual min). I'm probably the worst footie game player that ever existed so that was pretty normal, what wasn't normal was how many goals I scored on the normal level. Every shot I took (from inside of the box, or barely outside would go in). That really sucked for me to be able to score with my eyes closed on normal level, but I did enjoy playing world class even though it was a disgrace for me. They should have the normal level be a little bit harder and make world class even harder.

So overall, I though it was a decent game, although I didn't get a real good feel for it, especially because the graphics are not rendered properly (at least not like the videos I watched), and the cameras on the demo were really sucky, I couldn't see the pitch very much. I liked it when I pressed Z for OTB, I thought that was a great angle.

I haven't played WE7 or PES3, but I have played WE6 and I can tell you that FIFA is really close to WE6. Besides some weird shooting going on at times, the ball physics, passing and lobing seem right on. That's just my opinion. I don't know how much better PES3 will be, but I don't think FIFA is going to be that disapointing, especially because with this much improved gameplay, and all other features, also a better rendering of the graphics (just like those from the FIFA site movies—the latest ones, and the game informer ones), this game will be a great contestant to PES3. I can already see a lot of people choosing FIFA because the game is really close to feeling like football, and because you can do a lot more than you would be able to with PES3.

OTB, great career mode (if it's not only 5 years like the demo said) and Footie Fusion, Online, EA Bios, Crowd chants, Licenses and real kits, etc...

I should say, I was very hyped up to play FIFA and now I just want the actual PS2 game to compare with the demo.

Then I'll want to play PES3/WE7 and make my judgement on what the best game is. For gameplay I think FIFA will not beat PES/WE for sure, but it'll be close, for everything else I'd choose FIFA.

That's my review for you guys.

Leave it like that , football is slow game, want faster? go play hockey ;)
What are u talking about? Do u even play soccer? When I recieve a pass in this slow motion game it takes forever for the player to turn and move forward, even with skilled players like Nedved and Rui Costa. Maybe in your pee wee league it's that slow but not in the pros, they're extremely fast if ever watch them live. I don't get that feeling of adrenaline when you pass 3-4 guys in real life, in this game it's impossible 'cause you only have one trick move which is completely insane considering how many moves there are in soccer. How come they can do it for NBA live? These guys are used to watching too much English soccer, there's no flair or excitement in this game , it's boring period!
BRING ON PES3!!!!:rockman:

Well for me the Graphics are fine once you get demo raptor and the game runs fine but is it just me or do neither of the teams have any wide midfielders there is never anyone to pass the ball to out wide

why i won't like fifa 2004 from what i've seen from a demo

if you hold a ball still the game stops completely and no1 is moving on the field and ur opponents are not attacking you unless u start moving - i think ur players should try to make an opening for you to pass them ball

players don't run onto balls, this was in 2003 and its now gone from 2004 - i think you should have an option to chose ur gameplay, to turn it of or on definitely

scoring goals is very boring, i watched cpu against cpu and goal scoring is not creative and its just a same old story from 2003

if you try to shoot all balls are directed toward opponents goals which means you can face ur own goal but when u press shoot all shots are going to an opposite side - why??? can't be good gameplay

maybe its time ea sold its soccer franchise because they can't make a soccer game period and how can they when they are from canada. nfl, nhl, nba, and all other american sport has been improved but with fifa football 2004 its not going anywhere with ea. i'm sure if it were some european developer they could make fifa soccer better cause they understand soccer better

Yes. I also hope someone else will take over the fifa license from EA. They have had it long enough now. It is time for someone else to take a shot at making a good football game.

Like I said before, I don't know why you guys think the game sucks so much. Rent the final game, look at all the features and you'll notice that AI will change, because it's much easier to script a certain type of play and include it in the demo than creating a 100/200mb demo just to have multiple tactics performed by the AI. That's why the demo is 35mb, because only the essential pieces of the game are there for us to get a feel for it.

That's what I think, anyways. It's a much better game than 2003, and it really won't suck like 2003, I think most of us will enjoy it.
