How long is each section of CM?

How long is each section of CM - that is, player career, player/manager and manager? I wanted to start as a player only, but I am very disappointed with the lack of work EA have done in that area, so I'm going to go with player/manager. I don't want to start at a top club though, I want to start with AFC Wimbledon - is there enough time in the player/manager section to forge a decent player legacy?
