How strong is Xbox 360?!

Hi guys.

I know that this question seem to be old or easy but I really need to know how powerful is the Xbox 360?

In other words, if I was to build a PC that matches the Xbox 360 then what are the configurations of that PC?

Please people I don't want anyone to give me there opinion on Xbox 360, I'm going to buy it whether everybody hate it or not... Right now, I just want some really good answers for my question, and please provide some links if possible. :)

To my knowledge the power of the Xbox 360 is currently equal if not a little more power than top end computers which would cost around £1000 to build.

I'm not positive on that price exactly but its close, you'd definatly need the best stuff money can buy to really match it.

the graphics card being 85% of that 1000 quid.

The X-Box is a console basicaly a graphic card with a box around it, but it will never, ever rival what you can do with a PC, because PC's are evolutive, a console is not.

This reminds me of the good old days of the Amiga vs. PC, all the amiga boys went crazy because they could play Monkey Island 1 in 256 colours and we could only in 16, now where is Amiga now? Yep, deep in the trash bin next to Atari and some even older and forgotten names, the X-box might survive a bit longer because Microsoft is behind it, but eventualy it will dissapear deep into the trashbin next to the Sega Megadrive :).

the reason why the xbox is"so" powerful is bcos it doesnt run background programs. so you get 100% processing speed. anyone play call of duty on the 360 absolutey amazing

Yeah that's completly true Billy1969, as much as console's improve PCs will always be their constantly improving the power, the 360 will only be better than most PCs for the next year or so. After that there would have been new graphics cards and the 360 would be left behind.

One main advantage to console gaming is that you only have to upgrade once every 7 or so years instead of your brand new graphics card being out of date in the next 6 months. It's all a matter of cost.
