for those of you who know me and for those of you who dont , my name is Sanel and i have been an active user here before. i've asked here for advice many times and many times you guys helped me. well i am planning on going to Bosnia dis summer to try out in some first division teams and probably to Croatian teams as well. i have been in the biggest Bosnian news in America, in our local news many times and i am really proud of being on the FRONT PAGE of Detroit News which is the biggest newspaper in the state of michigan. i'll post pics so u dont think im lying. but what i need advice on is what kind of mentality should i keep in my head (i am an attacker, either winger or a forward) throughout the whole match because sometimes i lose my focus and wonder around, but when i am serious i score goals.

Damn, man. You make me look like a 5 year old, even though i am only 1.5 years younger.

Anyways you should always respect your opponents, but never actually think that they are better than you, even if you come up against Bordon. Obviously never get nervous, i am sure you know that. If it seems that the team is just passing the ball around and it can't get to you because you appear at the wrong place all the time, then try working to get that ball yourself, the more you get to that ball and touch it, the more passes you will get latter on. Can't think of anything else right now, but don't try to play desperatly, playing with anger gives strength and aggresivness and higher chance of getting the ball, so the two main things in not getting lost in the game are trying to touch the ball as much as possible and respecting your opponents with a thought that they are good, but you can still match them in your mind. Hope that helps a little.

Good luck with your tryouts, btw did you ever thought that maybe you could get a good soccer scholarship in US university, make it to MLS and then go on from there?

Wow, that's pretty impressive that you are being covered in Bosnia. (Y)

Didn't you try out with the Crew, last fall? How'd that go, if you did?

bjmenge: "the crew question"..

i did go, obviously i did not make it but that was a big forward step for me. there i learned some new things that i did not know before and i improved there even though i didnt make it. i was by far the youngest one trying out from the other 150-160 people. (i did not have any endurance, no strenght, not quick enough as the others, just basically not good enough)

help?: "your college question"...

i do not wish to go to a college because i feel that it is a waste of 2 or 4 years of my career if i am to make it big. i mean why play for college here if by hard practice and weight training for these next 3-4 months i can make it to the Bosnian national league.

one bit of my question was answered but not the whole thing. what i want to know is like lets say your playing in the 70s and 80s minutes of a game and your so tired you cant even think, what should i think of not to fade out of the game?

Well it depends where you want to end up through out your career. It's hard to get out of Bosnian league, than American because more and more scouts from european clubs are coming over there. And i don't know how safe bosnia is, but a security issue should play a small part too, if you know what i mean. Plus getting good education after your career is very important. Bergkamp once said that if you wonna be a footballer, then you better study hard in school, so that you won't fall into a slump after 35. Only very few players and they have to be big superstars end up somewhere good in soccer like commercials, managing etc. Unless you wonna become a manager after, but then you would still have to be a good manager and it's not easy i would think. Having good education will definietly help you after your career big time and MLS has **** loads of scounts watching College and university team games, where you would have a good chance. But good luck with whatever you chose ;) .

i am the kind of guy that really doesnt give a damn about the money. i just love soccer/football too much and i just want to play the game.

i have another issue i have to ask one more question if some people can help me. its about weight lifting.

i am in a gym monday thru friday. i work on legs/abs monday and wensday and friday. rest of the body tuesday and thursday. is this a good schedule. i mean does this give me body enough time to rest? and does it make you have quicker and faster legs if they are bigger?

Sanel, its great to have you part of our small SG family.

Congratulations on all the attention your skills have been getting.

In regards to your question, you're still young and you have alot to learn. I think that all you need to have right now is your natural skills, the rest can be taken care of the people that will teach you more about the game. It also comes down to what suits you best and what you like best. Personaly, I would tell you right now, be a forward. Especially if you have the skills for it, do it. Forwards/strikers have an easier time being "great", its just a matter of having those skills.. and I think you probably do already. If you mess with the winger idea too much, I think it's going to be harder for you to get noticed. Remember, the only noticeable person in the midfield is the creative midfielder, the 10. The wingers usually get lost in the crowd unless they have a sweet free-kicking foot like Beckham. If you wanna become a superstar, work on being the best at scoring goals, and you'll score the most at being a forward.

Good luck and I hope everything turns out well.

Don't know about your training schedule, but working out on your legs doesn't actually make you faster, not directly at least. What getting muscles in your legs does is it gives you, let's call it, extra capacity for running. So the stronger the legs the more space you have in being fast, but becoming fast you actually need to run a lot. So working out in gym getting muscles in legs will give you more space that will be used when you are jogging to become faster runner.

you don't really want to bul up by training to much, yo'll lose some of your speed, if i was u i would try to get cut, you know what i mean. go for the Bruce Lee body not the Arnold Body.lol.

If you want to be a winger i would try to get cut. You will get stronger, but you won't exactly grow in dody size, but that's good cuz a good winger needs to be fast ala, Figo, Ronaldo, Robben, Giggs, etc...

If you wanna be a striker then you should try to bulk up a bit but not too much cuz you will lose some agility, and quickness. Also to work on your stamina i would do a lot of Cardio work.

Best workout u can do is run, sprint, cross country. PS, don't go killing yourself working out and good luck man

More weight and less reps will make the muscle stronger and bigger. Less weight will make the muscle leaner and is basically meant to be used for cutting up/ reducing fat.

How old are you? I wouldn't bother going too hard on the weights, at least until your body has finished growing to its 'normal' capacity.

If you want to get fast, then it might be a good idea to mix the weight training with some sort of running system i.e. on the day you aren't training your legs at the gym, try doing some sprints e.g. maybe place cones 40m apart, sprint as fast as you can from one end to the other, then jog back, and repeat until you are ****ed.

For pure power (and this would probably help bursts of acceleration), find a short but steep hill or driveway or something similar, and run up it as fast as you can, jog back down, then repeat... again, until you are stuffed. It doesn't need to be a long hill, maybe 20 m would be enough. The point is to improve the power in your legs.

In both cases your legs will get one hell of a workout, especially in the hill run.

If you are looking for good abs, then there are a couple of things you can add to a normal ab routine (situps and leg raises etc.). Try doing situps holding a weight behind your head, maybe a 10kg plate or something. Abs are just like any other muscle, and you need weight to make them bigger. The other thing is to do something like skipping for 10 minutes (or at least build up to it eventually, start off with three sets of three minutes or something). A 10 minute skip session is equivalent to thirty minutes running, PLUS when you skip constant tension is kept on the muscles in the abs area for the duration you are doing it - you will have abs like a prize fighter in no time. Also improves the strength of your calves.

And obviously, cut out as much fat from the diet as possible. THe emphasis needs to be on increasing your metabolism if you want good abs, a person could do 1000 situps a day and still not have great abs if they aren't eating right and it is theri only form of exercise.

Hope this helps :)
