Couldent agree more. I watched a whole bunch of 5 minute long videos about the making of FIFA2004 and they talked forever about getting 350 crowd chants, player voices, in-depth management, lower division leagues etc etc...those are all good things but the whole time I was watching I thought "What does any of this matter when the gameplay is horrendous and feels far from real football and has very limited controls?" and why does EA go into all this detail to make sounds and leagues and not into gameplay first? It's gotta be becuase they dont know how to make good gameplay without copying PES.

You're almost right.
It's not made by 'Yankies', but rather in CANADA by CANADIANS. In my opinion this is why FIFA is never going to be a true footie game. Not that i have anything against Canadians as a whole, but this is not territory they should be in. I know they have Brits on their development team, but this game is made in Canada predominantly by people who I bet would rather be out watching ice hockey or baseball than soccer. Not the kind of people who should be creating a game on this great European sport.
Now, take the Japanese. Not exactly the most eminent of footballing nations, but they are absolutely mad about the sport. Just see how crazy they went over the World Cup last year. This passion is what makes PES such a fantastic game. I'm sure EA are not flippant about their game, but they simply don't share this massive enthusiasm for the sport, and without this you are never going to approach the level of sheer brilliance that is PES.
It is about the coding, true, but i think Club Football was nothing but a shameless money making exercise, not a serious attempt at a great footie game. Sums up the ethos of Codemasters for me - all their games are middle of the road fair, over hyped with slick big oney tie-ins (Colin McRae, Tomb Raider) designed to capture as big a share of the market as possible. Not what KCET are about.
They are 2 major contributing factors. I never said they were mutually exclusive. FIFA is also a money making exercise - and it's also made by people who have a greater love of ice hockey than football!
it doesnt matter where the game is made, its who makes it- the actual people who make it, the project managers who tell em how its gona be made-thats the difference. EA just make the game LOOk good on first glance and on paper, and this is a brilliant marketing strategy on their part, because up until now, thats all they needed to do since they dominated the pc market. because once u buy the game, they dont care what u say afterwards, u already bought it, money in their pocket. But next year's fifa better be a miracle if they wanna compete with PES
Yeah, but the 2 go hand in hand. The Canadians are who they are because of where they are from, the environment they grew up in, and the culture they live in - which is anything but football oriented. Whereas in Japan they are football crazy, it's one of their biggest (if not the biggest) sports. When you have people living and working in that environment, and that includes the project managers, then all of that can't help but influence the game itself and the way it is coded. And that is naturally all connected to where they are from. When you add money to the equation, and you have companies whose objective is to make a football game for no other reason than for it to be money making venture (like Club Football) then that you are going to get a pretty poor game at the end of it.
Basically, i'm saying every factor is significant. Obviously if KCET left Japan and moved to Canada they'd still produce great PES games, so at the end of the day it does come down to the people, but those people are who they are because of where they are from.

Where does the Winning Eleven and Pro Evolution Soccer series come from? Yes, that's right, Japan. Is Japan anywhere in Europe the last time you checked? Does Japan have a great soccer history? No, but Brazil, Germany, Holland, France and Italy have and how many great soccer games do you see coming from those countries? None!
When will you actually grow a brain and see that it doesn't matter where the company is based? The team that design, code and test the FIFA series are made up of people from around the world. But even then, it doesn't matter whether the team is made up of mainly English, Japanese or wherever. Plenty of crap games come out of Japan, the UK, USA and everywhere else around the world.
True, the Canadians are a little obssessed with ice hockey above everything else but there is plenty of input from other nationalities to the game. The bottom line is that EA suck at making soccer games realistic! Go look at the FIFA forums and you'll see that the majority of FIFA supporters are from Europe so this entire "blame the Yankies" BS hardly holds much water does it?

EA should create a seperate design studio just for the FIFA and TCM, EA Canada does too much (FIFA, NHL, NBA LIVE) Now NHL is done by Blackbox, but EA Canada should be relieved of FIFA. Start a new dev team in Eastern Europe and bring in Swedes, Germans, British, Japanese, Italians, Dutch,and even the French to make a Football sim. Its not like EA doesn't have the money.
THis is why I wish somebody like SEGA would partner w/ KCET in order to publish PES on the XBOX.
