ShiftyPowers, Ronaldo is by far the best player of your generation. Raul, Henry, Figo, ZZ, etc., they're all very good, but Ronaldo is... well... phenomenal. He play(ed) in another level, one that none of the names of today can reach. I agree with you when you say that he's not the best player of the world right now. I already wrote in another thread that he's very far from his full physical capacities. IF he ever gets to be as good in Real as he was in Barcelona, I'm certain that you'll come here and post how right we, Ronaldo fans, were. :)

Of my generation? How much older are you then Ronaldo? Are you not in this generation?

Anyways, yeah that's what I've been saying, he's not the best right now. I was a HUGE Ronaldo fan in his hayday, I remember him, despite not scoring tons of goals, being simply amazing at World Cup 98. I simply didn't see that this time around. I don't care how many goals are scored, my "Best player in the World" tag will be given to someone with Quality rather than just Quantity. I want a brilliant player, not someone with tons of lucky goals. That's why I like Ballack right now. He is the player with the best form at the moment, no one can stop him!

I really do wish that I was able to see that man play in his prime, which ironically he was like 18 in, because he was on pace to be the next Pele.

Yes, and Real Madrid defeated Bayern Munich in the semi-final in 1999/00 over two legs, and again in the quarter-final in 2001/2 over two legs.

Quantity and not quality? Well, for me, if a striker can score 30 goals a season I will say that's certainly quantity. If he gets all his goals via sheer luck, then I would rather have this player in my side than some so-called class act who makes 10 assists and scores 10.

Ballack was good at the World Cup, of course, but he didn't exactly play against the best opposition. Saudi Arabia (my local team could have given them a game), Cameroon (only beat Saudi 1-0), Paraguay (lucky to go through), USA (surprise package) and South Korea (also surprise package) were all supposed no-hopers before the tournament. None possess what you can call truely World Class players to oppose an efficient looking German midfield.
And let's not forget that Ballack was in Leverkusen last season, who lost to Real Madrid in the final. And Leverkusen, surprisingly, finished above Bayern in the Bundesliga.

I know all about Leverkusen!! Not only was Ballack brilliant in every game of the World Cup, but he led his team to two cup finals, and lost the league by like, a point. He is the best player in the world right now.

Oh, and about a lucky striker scoring 30 in a season. That won't happen. A lucky one will score say 8 in a short period of time, such as the World Cup, then go cold for many many games. Ronaldo will not kill anyone this season, I predict a very solid 15 goals.

When I first read this, I thought "Man, ShiftyPowers didn't understand what I meant". But now I went back to read what I wrote and I did forget to add a small part. Actually, I did have it there, but I got the annoying "white screen" when I tried to submit my reply and had to rewrite my post and forgot to add it on the second go. So I appologize for that.:)

What I meant was that, although Ronaldo is only a few months older than me, I was old enough to follow Maradona's career since the 86WC until the 94WC.
I mean, how many of you remember the Mexican World Cup? I remember it as if it was yesterday. Ahhhh, that was a great tournament.:)

About Maradona, I can only say that if Pele is really the best footballer ever, the brazilian had to be something truly special.
If the Argentinians wore a red cape back then, I would have thought that Maradona was Superman.

Did Roberto Carlos, Zidane, Rivaldo or Raul died and I haven't heard of?

Ballack is very good, don't get me wrong. Bayern made a fantastic signing, one of the best this year, and I expect him to be one of the top 3 players of the world in 3 or 4 years (Germany 2006 comes to mind), but not right now, man. Any of those names I mentioned are still one notch above him, and I'm not talking about experience alone. Zizou, for instance, plays in the same position and still has lots of stamina and also has that magical ball control, superb passing and an almost mystical ability to push his team forward (that is probably what makes him stand out from the others, that "Magic" Johnson gift). With a few more seasons in his legs, Ballack might get there too.

Hmm, I didn't mention Figo because he had a very poor season and WC. However, anyone who watched the European Supercup final and the last league game against Espanyol knows that the real Figo is back. He can stand out, even in a star-plagued team like Real.
So, if you're going to say that you were talking about the best player of the world RIGHT NOW, as if we didn't have any memory about what happened in the previous seasons, he'd be my pick. :)

I'am tired of everyone saying only Michael Ballack! what about the others!

Everytime anyone talks about Bayern Munich is always got to be Ballack i know he is good! but what about the other players. Bayern hasn't lost a match yet! and they are the Best team in August right now! so please stop only saying about Ballack! and i think Madrid sometimes play's well against Bayern! usually Bayern dominate the game!

All of a sudden he leaves inter and hes crap i remember close to the end of last season when he came back from injury and was scoring everyone came here all happy(esp inter fans:rolleyes: ) but now hes left......The best strikers didnt score 8 goals in a wc, the guy has been out forever but yet some here still have to justify the claims of their stars and we debate,he must be proud. Ballack is ok not extraordinary ive never seen him dominate games the way Shifty*itrez manages to see him do i remember we played em twice last season, didnt even see him. Cant a guy dump on germany twice in a wc final and join a team that automatically reduces b.munich's chance of winning the CL without everyone getting touchy:D .

Those four are all better than Ronaldo, and certainly better than Klose.

And i repeay the job of a stricker is to be in the right time in the right place

Yeah, if you can score 30 goals a year, Ronaldo will get 15 this year, and frankly, a guy who doesn't run with a sky high wage isn't worth the 15 goals.

So does them make them best team in Europe then? Probably not.

You seem to forget Andrew Cole scoring 40+ goals in one season, and then flopped badly at Man Utd for the first two seasons.

We don't compare individual players because a TEAM is more than it's individual players. It's a TEAM with TEAMwork that makes a TEAM.

Btu sometimes individuals are indispensable, like Ronaldo for Brazil at the WC, Brazil sucked but thanx 2 ronaldo they won the cup

ShiftyPowers

Make America Great Again
They would have won without him. No other team was Brazil's quality after France, Argentina, and Italy went out.

You really seem to forget that Bayern has other players than Ballack:

Kahn is the best keeper of the world
Deisler is one of the greatest talents in Germany, but he is inhjured very often
Mehmet Scholl can bring a lot of creativity in the midfield. Bayern's gameplay was that static because of Effenberg, he made the game slow, he was in bad constitution last year, now he plays at Wolfsburg and Bayern made very useful transfers: Ze Roberto is a great player, he made the most assists in the last year's Bundesliga-Season. Ballack is very effective and scores quite often (last year 17 goals). But there are also players like Lizarazu, Linke (in my opinion best defender at the WC 2002), Sagnol, Santa Cruz, Hargreaves, Elber and Pizarro.
And one last thing: Hasan Salihamidzic! He has a great value for Bayern. Roberto Carlos had NEVER a good game against "Brazzo" (Saliha...).
Another big advantage for Munich is Ottmar Hitzfeld, in my opinion together with Houllier and Ferguson the best coach in Europe

no wonder he was the first to criticise salihamidzic when he made the comment that real madrid didn't play hard enough...
He wanted to get back at him!!!
