actually from past threads and generally thoughout my life we have faced a very small minority who have not supported us - I know that we are lucky to have the lack of issues which we do face, but it really is the way thatit should be arounf the world

and my life has definitely just began- I have never been so happy :)

Nice to see you back, Steven, and congrats on the "civil partnetship". Does it not piss you off that it's not called marriage? It would definately piss me off. Seems such a bigotted legislation of taste that homosexual marriage is not exactly the same as hetrosexual marriage in every detail. Politicians and relgious leaders say "why do you care if it's called marriage or a civil partnership, you get pretty much the same benefits?", and to them I would say FUCK YOU. You call whatever goes on under your roof a civil partnership.

Still, it's great to see that you're so happy, I hope your relationship continues to be long, enjoyable and fruitful (maybe not quite the right word).

thanks for that Sir_Didier_Drogba :)

and it does bother me that we can;t legally refer to it as a marraige, but then at the same time I am really gratefull for what we do have. Less than a year ago a gay relationship would not be recognised as being a true relationship, and I truly believe that in a few years time this stupid rule will be changed, and we will indeed have full marriage. Stonewall simply didn;t campaign for it at this stage, as they though that getting the legislation through as it currently stands was more important.

My name is now Steven De Souza-Wilson :)

That's about the funkiest name I've seen in a while.

And yeah, hopefully the last steps towards full equality will be taken soon. It seems like exactly the sort of policy this "new look" tory party would adopt, and they could be in next term, so maybe it will happen then. Still, its these little stubborn niggles which almost piss me off more than the total, blatant unfairness of the system before civil partnerships were allowed. Just a totally pointless concession to outdated, unnecessary ideals.

in terms of the civil partnership act, i think that it has been gone about in completely the right way. Getting the rights is by far more important than what these rights are actually called, and the decision was not a government one, but was taken by the main campaigners, Stonewall, who decided that they would fae less opposition from the "religious" people around the country if they avoded using the term marraige, which in itself is seen as a religious act.

I am sorry to say it, as I do consider myself to be religious, and would love to say that I am married to Mark ( as it sounds so much more permanant, than civilly partnered to) and in our eyes the word marriage means more along the lines thats it's blessed by god ( there's alreadt threads around on Gay Religion so this isn;t the place to discuss in mroe dpeth) and that we were bought togetehr by him -

As most Gay men are not religious in the slightest, the fact that the act has came in means that they can get precisely what they have always wanted, and people such as Mark amd I are 1 step closer to getting what we really want.
