I'm glad the Olympics are over!

Now this gawd awful 2 week long nationalist circle-jerk can finally be over! I honestly don't even care that Canada won the gold medal in hockey, even though everyone around here has a hard-on because of it right now..

Why does this make me a bad person?

Help?

You lost some money on that hockey game, didn't you?

As a Canadian/American, I was pulling for a US victory just to see the heartbreak and utter devastation in the faces of Canadians. Sid the Kid ended that hope, and the hyper-circle-jerk began

Glad that it's over. Not that the sports are bad or anything. I just hate the importance attached to the games. Nobody cares about these sports(except hockey) for four years and all of the sudden the justification for my life and existence on this earth is that some douche won a gold medal skating in a circle faster than another douche. And all that pre-build up to the games with those corny ass "Do You Believe?" kids telling me that there is an Olympic athlete in 'all of us'. Ha, I think most people didn't take their 'chance' on that one. CTV's flag waving was vomit inducing, but that happens from every country's broadcaster. At least the CL will be back on Sportsnet in HD and PTI will be shown on TSN regularly again.

Can't wait to see the public reaction when Canada wins the World Cup in 2046. Mass looting, exposed nipples, and Molson empties FTW!!!

Seriously, dude.. you're like my new hero around here.

That pretty well sums up my opinion on the winter olympics too, just an opportunity for the flag waving sheep to come out and show their "pride" every 4 years. Most of the events are lame as hell too, not to mention they're mostly bourgeois sports anyway that the average person could never even get into. Who but the already privileged has the opportunity to train regularly in something like downhill skiing? I actually find it funny when they start talking about world peace and sh!t whenever the olympics come around.

Albert Einstein had it right when he said nationalism is an infantile disease..

I seriously enjoyed these Olympics, excellent coverage and some interesting results. Probably quite annoying if you're in Vancouver and don't particularly like winter sports though...

I can see downhill skiing if you're a normal person that lives in a skiing town. I had a friend who was a bartender/ski bum for a couple years in Colorado, and while I know he isn't a professional skier, I'm sure a prole job like that could allow someone plenty of time to train.

The one that I can't stand is bobsled/luge/skeleton. Who the HELL has access to a bobsled track? There are probably 20 of them in the world and they're monopolized by heavily endorsed, already successful bobsledders/lugers/skeletoners.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
Not just the winter Olympics but also the summer Olympics.....if it's decided by a judge, it is not a sport. It's a form of entertainment......but not a sport.
Synchronized diving/swimming
Diving...off of platforms at various heights
Moguls
Aerials
X-Games sports that are at the Olympics....somehow
Gymnastics
Figure Skating
Ice Dancing
Trampoline

Then you must not be a particularly big fan of the World Cup, Summer Olympics or European Championships either. Or any international competition for that matter......or you have a double standard!

If it makes you feel any better, our olympics coverage wasn't any less cringeworthy. We had AFL (Aussie Rules football) commentators calling some of the events, because it would save the network the expense of hiring people who actually had a clue what they were on about. Much of the airtime was devoted to celebrating Australia's mammoth medal haul of 2 golds and one silver (not bad for a dry country, but still).
Back in 2000 when we had the summer olympics in Sydney, the line of cars leaving the city was 4 times longer than the one going into it, now even 10 years on people in Sydney are still paying the cost of hosting those games, in inflated taxes and crumbling basic infrastructure. Come back this time next year and see if Vancouverites(?) still feel as cocky about having the games.

considering the race demographics of the city, it would have to be Vancouverese (H) ...

That's not too bad actually. I dug it even though I'm no Canuckistani.

I rate it better than this Croatian version, even though Dragan sings it, sorry prijatelj :(

Wrong. Dragan generally abhors anything to do with nationalism, especially if there's war involved. Been there, done that.
