I've read allot about the tackling in PES5. I've had the full game since it came out for PS2. I've been playing it since it came out and I don't think the tackling system is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I do think it is more styled on the Italian game. (Watched a Serie A match earlier and counted about 50 fouls in one half). I think its more to do with timing though, if you don't bash the X button all the time and only tap it when your at the side of infront of the opposing player it works fine, or does in my experience. Give it a try.

Unless every other PES player ran around holding down X all the time

just use Square most of the time, works fine and you dont have to time it aswell.

I really believe that! I don't have any problems with the fouls.
Pressing the X button makes the players "kick" and try to reach the ball.

I believe everyone else is still used to PES4 with almost no fouls at all (those pressures from behind) and play like Can-Can dancers.

i think people that complaining are holding X yes. I never hold down X, i only tap when i want to tackle. And i just recently noticed holding down X will automaically follow the man with the ball. WTF is that bull$hit

why is that hillarious? just cos we didnt "cheat" the game by constantly holding X. Im happy that Konami have put this in finally.

I don't give away any more fouls than i did in pes4 to be honest.

It's all about timing and if you're caught on the break hold off and put pressure on the opposing player to run away from your goal giving more time for your players to get back. Only slide in if you're certain you'll win the ball and use square to apply lots of pressure, at worst the opposition player will be forced into making a poor pass. I like to play pressure football, as soon as an opposition player has the ball in my half i have at least 2 players on him.
